These remasters after only a few years are wild.
I think the term you’re looking for is “greedy”
I find 10$ a very decent value, far from greedy to be honest. This is not the same as TLOU part 1 where you had to pay full price even if you already had a previous version.
It’s 10 extra dollars for a game you already own which is why it’s greedy.
You are still able to play the PS4 version on your PS5, so no you’re not paying 10 dollars for a game you already own.
You’re paying 10 dollars for Dualsense rumble support, extra roguelike mode and lots of other PS5 specific updates like support for fast loading.
The tech difference between the PS4 and PS5 is massive.
It genuinely can be a complete overhaul, more than just graphically. Also worth noting is that the $10 cost is just the difference in pricing from last gen, and doing split gen like that has let them keep the PS4 versions the same pricing without making them rebuy games when they get a new console. They just make up the difference.
I don’t and won’t buy a lot of full priced games because I can wait, but their approach really isn’t that bad.
I have trouble reconciling that with the PC market, where the same version of a game I bought 4 years ago would be able to run at better resolutions and frame rates the next time I get a new machine. From where I sit, it does just appear to be worse value in the console space.
PC would just not offer the discounted last gen version.
And also can’t do either the seamless loading (or the controller features unless it’s hard wired) that are the defining features.
Gotta double-dip for more profit.
At least it seems decent. I’m a fan of Rune Factory franchise but can’t fathom the latest Rune Factory 3 Special, which is an AI upscaled of the original on NDS

Normally I’d say it’s a greedy cash grab, but it’s $10 upgrade path for existing owner, instead of reselling it for $50 - $70? Also there’s a new rouge-like / souls-like mode? Maybe branding this release as ‘remaster’ is not doing them any favor, it’d probably better for them to market it as free PS5 upgrade and a survival mode expansion for $10.
Jordan Middler from VGC heard that this might be a project for new hires
Ian Stokes (@IanVanCheese) from Twitter posted that “If I was Sony, I would maybe let my S-tier studio that excels at making new IPs and interesting games actually make new games, instead of forcing them to photocopy their previous A+ report card for eternity”
to which Jordan Middler from VGC (@JordanMiddler) replied “From what I was told from one person, this was more of a project for new hires to get them in the game. Druckmann’s team is full steam ahead on original. One doesn’t takeaway from the other afaik”
I really hope that Naughty Dog would move on to do something more cheerful than TLOU, the mood is just too oppressive and taxing, especially in TLOU2 where the game is very long.
I personally think TLOU2 is one of the most effective works of art in the entire medium and I love the game top to bottom, but I’m also overjoyed to hear they’re working on something else now.
I too hope it’s more cheerful, for the exact same reasons.
And what about the PC version?
If you have a disc, can you still get the upgrade (does it get treated like other DLC)?
I haven’t been following the PS5 closely until I recently got it.
In most cases you can, usually it’s a bit more convoluted, like inserting your disk then upgrading through the in-game pop up, or through the dlc menu while the disk is installed.
Who left Take Two/Rockstar, and went to Naughty Dog? That’s what I want to know.
As someone who got TLOU II ridiculously cheap on PSN, I’ll bite at the $10 upgrade…especially with the new features
