It’s literally in the term. But yeah sure, it’s easier to just smack the same label on everything. Whatever makes you happy.

They could simply

A) dislike X

B) hate/despise X

C) came to the logical conclusion, that X is bad/wrong/shouldn’t be/whatever

D) genereally mistrusting against X due to a careful nature

E) have had traumatic experience with X (e.g. Being raped/attacked by a member of a specific ethnicity) and hence totally overreacting to an otherwise harmless stimulus, even forgetting the rules of civil behaviour

Those all don’t mean there’s the medical condition of a phobia for X.

A real xenophobic has an irrational fear of anything unknown/alien. Doesn’t mean the person just hates e.g. Mexicans for no real reason. It might even like them once they get to know the better, which often just won’t happen as phobics tend to avoid the cause their phobia instead of treating it.

I just dislike the lax use of medical terms until they’re bereft of any real meaning.

So, a person who yanks “speak English!” to someone, could have many reasons to do. None are neither polite nor politically correct. While the asshole is probably just the uneducated asswipe, the phobic could be helped and probably even feels bad afterwards for being so compulsive and insulting.

Not everyone disliking something is necessarily phobic towards it. That’s just one possoble explanation.

Well. I do it the other way. I would not install effing whatsapp just to reach someone. I tell then once where to find me, and, if they want to know, why this is and why i prefer it and why i wouldn’t install app X. If they don’t, then bad luck for me. Or not.

Well, it’s a hobby/passion. Simple as that. I’m a nerd, i love such things. And home automation is a thing I’ve dreamt of since the first automatic door in star trek. Automatic lights, alarm-system, cameras, a smart AI (locally, no stupid alexa et al),a tablet at the door which tells us everything we want to know on a quick glance (weather, shopping-list, fuel-prices, status of all machines etc). And all that with some many thousand lines of code and triple redundancy 😍

You’re technically right. But the fundamental flaw in your logic is not obeying the #1 rule in everyone’s life (at least it should be) :

Keep toxic people out of your life, no matter their sex. Women can be the same pieces of shit that men can be. The statistical quantification or prevalence by trend doesn’t matter. Keep. Them. Out. Period. Family, friend, coworkers, significant others? Whatever. OUT!

And if you end up being totally lonely by this? Well. Still better being totally lonely than being under the foot of an arsehole just not to be lonely.

There are awesome people out there. You just got to weed out a legion of sand before finding a pearl. Or two.

Yet, if FOSS is more a wish than a requirement: Try Bring. “free”, syncs and has an api to get it connected to smart-home or whatever. Definately the easiest thing.

At least they don’t try to make you pay for that :-)

No. Never use a messenger for those things, that is legally allowed in most nations. They advertise e2e-encryption and stuff, but also need to comply to governments.

Remember e. G. The reason telegram’s owner was kicked out of his own country because he didn’t comply to leaving a backdoor for the gov? And how it’s, in some nations, one of the only few messenger left that can be used to express a free opinion without “dissapearing” after?

If you’re somehow tech-savy go iobroker. Its5like homeassistant but on steroids. There’s nothing you can’t do. Do your logic by moving blocks or pure Javascript. Things you could do?

• your cars gets near the house => unlock door, open garage-door, turn on lights

• you leave home? Let your sonos-speaker tell you which doors/windows are still open or if you left the stove on. Let it Ask you if it should enable the alarm and then switch on the ip-cams and set the system to armed and lock the doors.

• have a tablet display the weather-forecast, the climates around the house, the fuel-prices near you and what’s on your shopping-list.

• have multiple light-scenes (or air-condition or fans or…) on a key at each rooms entrance. Or voice-controled. But not between 2200h and 0600h. Except Sundays. Unless it’s bright outside. Or you’re on holiday. Or YOU are not home but a burglar.

Fakten stehen über Menschen, da geb ich dir total recht. Das sehen nur sicher viele nicht so, und daher gibt’s eben besagte Besserwisser oder simple Trolle. Dagegen kann man aber auch nix machen außer das Ganze zu sperren und Leute einzustellen. Aber das geht auch nicht, denn das Ganze ist ja nur was es ist WEIL es ein hive-mind ist.

Ja genau. Gut für einen Überblick. In vielen Fällen sicher auch mehr. Aber zumindest ein erster Anlauf. Geht zumindest auch schneller als die richtigen Studien/Aufsätze/whatever zu finden.

Dein erster Satz widerspricht sich irgendwie. Wenn die selben 3 Besserwisser alles blockieren, sind’s ja doch die Menschen, die das Problem sind. Der rein technische Ansatz von Wiki ist doch wunderbar. Ein Hivemind des Wissens. Das ist leider kein Ort für zu kleine Egos die gern größer wären, das ist so ziemlich überall das Problem, nicht nur in Wiki.

Es gab mal ne Studie (keine Lust zu suchen), welche zum Schluß kam, daß Wiki-Artikel sogar etwas weniger fehlerhaft sind als die gängigen Enzyklopädien. Was erwartest du denn? 100% Präzision und Perfektion? Das gibt’s nicht. Aber von ein paar hundert (schätze ich einfach mal) falschen oder halbärschigen Artikel auf die anderen millionen (auch geschätzt) zu schließen wär ein wenig irreführend.

Aber wie auch immer, was sollte man sonst nehmen? Google? Die 5000,- Enzyklopädie aus der letzten Dekade (upgraded man ja nicht so oft)? Büchereien? Wir ersaufen nicht gerade in Alternativen, die auch dem Ärmsten der Armen noch ermöglichen eine Wissenslücke zu schließen, so das denn gewünscht ist. Dafür nehm ich doch gern die Fehler und Macken in Kauf.

Einen Verbesserungsvorschlag hätte ich nämlich auch nicht anzubieten…

Natürlich ist es nicht für ALLES das non-plus-ultra. Aber sicherlich der bestmögliche GRATIS Einstieg in welches Thema auch immer. Gäbe es Wiki nicht dürften wir uns unsern Mist zusammensuchen. Mit mehr oder weniger Erfolg. Von fake-guerilla-werbungs-seiten über corporate-sponsored oder schlichtweg dem “Fach”-wissen von random Leuten. Ziehe ich dennoch der 20kilo-Enzyklopädie vor, die dann mit jedem Jahr weiter veraltet…

Nunja, es ist für JEDEN. Und lieber zuviel Info als zu wenig. Man kann ja raussuchen was man wirklich braucht und den Rest ignorieren :)
