Especially the hexbear users have an extremely argumentative instance culture and will even brigade comment sections critical of the great leader, so most users and even instances block them outright.

Not sure if that is an option for you too, but I have a scanwatch light myself. It is a hybrid smartwatch, being a classic analog watch with a small black and white display in the background.
The scanwatch products are health focused, allowing the user to track a variety of health stats like heartrate, activities and sleep analysis. It is very energy efficient, requring a a recharge about once a month in my case.
It is noteworthy that the hybrid concept makes some cuts to the smartness of the watch, for example replying to messages from the watch is not possible, only reading them as they come in. It doesn’t have touch functionality either, instead you control it with the bezel.
You can configure in the smartphone app which apps are allowed to relay notifications to the watch, giving you the option to filter out most noise that is not relevant to your mom. You can also set up activity plans to track and/or remind her to engage in some moderate activities like taking a walk.
Do note though that the watch asks for a subscription for some premium functions, like workout plans and more in depth health analysis. I don’t have that myself either though, being able to generally monitor my activities is enough for me. The watch also relies on the paired smartphone for its gps functionality, without the phone it would essentially be reduced to a classic wristwatch.

I have ADHD and am a night owl, so that kind of time management was always super stressful for me, to the point that I would set up a dozen or so alarms so I would wake up in the morning. After some time it was so ingrained that I sometimes heard the alarm sound randomly when sleeping, always causing me to be wide awake in the middle of the night with racing pulse.

As someone who went through the application system to join my instance, it is really not that bad. Just have your potential users write a few sentences on their lemmy history, why they want to join your instance and what content they are looking for.
This can be answered in a few minutes, but it is already enough to discourage almost all bad faith applicants. The few hours of wait period while you check their application for copy pasting are also contributing to deter them, simply because spam users often want to do some mischief right now, waiting until tomorrow doesn’t work well for those impulses.
It isnt so much “we" as in humanity, it is a select few very ambitious and very reckless corpos who are pushing for this, to the detriment of the rest (surprise).
If “we” were able to reign in our capitalists we could develop the technology much more ethically and in compliance with the public good. But no, we leave the field to corpos with delusions of grandeur (does anyone remember the short spat within the openai leadership? Okay this isnt a movie but a show, but arrested development (especially the early seasons) are filled with situations, puns, innuendos and jokes that are set up over several episodes, sometimes even seasons. It is impossible to catch and appreciate them all on first watch. I have seen the show probably a half dozen times over the years and i still stumble over the occasional thing i missed.
I love them because i am not being rushed, i can pack my groceries up in peace and properly stacked in the bag. Meanwhile at a normal checkout a bored cashier routinely scans my 30 items in less than 10 seconds, leaving me struggling to pay, and pack up my shit while a dozen people are waiting in line behind me.
I don’t really care about the hashtags, I want more content. And properly federating with the biggest fediverse service seems an easy and eventually necessary step anyway for Lemmy.

Wir führen das Land als Unternehmen, welches schwarze Zahlen schreiben muss, wir gehen sogar so weit ein dogmatisches, unflexibles Gesetz zu verabschieden welches das Schulden machen (aka Geld ausgeben) im Grunde verbietet. Die Bürger fragen nicht nach mehr Geld, sondern nach mehr Arbeit. Nach wie vor ist jemand der vom Sozialsystem abhängig ist, zuerst mal ein Schmarotzer und fauler Gammler. Generalstreik ist verboten, demonstrieren brav geregelt so dass auch jeder pünktlich zur Arbeit kommt und ja kein Sachschaden entsteht.
Natürlich versucht ein Land aus solchen Leuten alles zu kommerzialisieren, inklusive öffentlicher Dienstleistungen.
