Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the biggest misconception you think many people have?
11·4 days agoLmao cringe soapboxing. Your position is the Bible is simply a book promoting slavery, rape, and genocide. Can you reconcile why it has also inspired movements against slavery, for civil rights, and for charity. Do you think describing something in the Bible is the same as endorsing it? And how do you distinguish between laws given to ancient Israel and moral principles Christians believe apply today? Feels like the kind of statement an edgy 16 year old with the inability/inexperience to understand historic, cultural or theologic context would make. Yes, I recognize this is Lemmy and I’ll heavily be in the minority with any opinion that isn’t “religion bad”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most interesting fringe group you've learned about?
7·13 days agoOh I know that’s why I made the point of morally good/bad not being part of the equation. Just interesting. I saw some CRAZY videos of them in public. So, I looked into their general ideas and beliefs. They are like half the reason I made the thread.

27·14 days agoI’m not typically in favor of bombing things. You know, like in general. That said, blowing up a statue, waiting for it to be rebuilt and then blowing it up again is pretty funny.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why hasn't Europol asked for the full unredacted Trump/Epstein files?
693·15 days agoBecause the files damn leaders political and industry on a global level. It’s not just American ones and Trump. Lots of money from lots of different pockets are shielding them. We have war and reflecting pools to talk about anyway, forget about that pesky global elite pedophile ring /s. Should it happen, yes, will it happen, no.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you keep yourself sane and happy while 1) Right wing fascists are getting powerful 2) women rights are getting weaker 3) Inequalities are raising?
121·20 days agoI just try to keep in mind that even though shits rough right now its still better than just about any time in the history of humanity for the largest number of people. The fact we want better is good and is the only way we will get it. That said, trying to keep the historical context of quality of life is helpful. Less time in doom areas of the internet. I also do a good bit for my local community (volunteering and donating some things I produce on my farm)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's one book everyone should read at least once in their lifetime?
1·20 days agoOh, I mean yeah they are bad people and based off real people that existed. The Judge is also literally an allegory for the devil/pure evil. Its a good book about bad people. The Road might be more your speed. Still plenty of evil characters but at least your protagonists are good. The boy in that story is basically the antithesis of the judge and is representative of purity in the face of evil. Still has some particularly rough parts. I get what you’re saying though. I tapped out of American Psycho for like 3 years after one particularly rough section, only finished it recently. Different author but the only book I’ve had to put down.
