Exactly. And while I agree, I also live somewhere that uses a variety of ranked choice voting for some elections.
If someone truly wants to vote their values they should also have some understanding of how their voting system works.
If a vote for the candidate you believe in results in your least preferred candidate getting ahead, shouldn’t you consider a compromise vote to get a candidate closer to your values in power?
As mentioned in the article these can be quieter than a retail unit. The large fans move a lot of air and the large filter area means it’s easier to pull that air through; both combined mean a lower fan speed is needed for a given throughput.
HEPA filters may not be necessary - it seems that homemade air purifiers with standard filters can outperform them in clean air delivery rate, arguably the most important factor for a purifier. The air may not be as clean with each pass through it, but it’ll move much more air.
Are single-sex dorms a thing over there? Ours were always mixed with unisex bathrooms - stalls for everyone.
Assigned seating has been the norm here for decades. Makes things go a little more smoothly, especially when everyone expects it.

Yeah, that sort of rule requires a lot of faith in the moderators. Seems like they’re probably violating it themselves with their moderation.
Perhaps I don’t really understand - looking at the world news community on lemmy.ml rule 1 seems to be about only posting links to news articles. None of the things on the mod log screenshot look like news articles. Isn’t this the mods doing their jobs correctly?

Can confirm. The rosellas were delightful. The Ibis were pretty awesome as well -such a trashy looking bird. Ours at least hides its shame (kiwi).

Have you considered moving somewhere that’s better aligned with your values? It’s not something to undertake lightly, but I know that moving helped me a lot. Totally different situation for me though.
For me it was basically just moving somewhere bigger, even if I didn’t get much better at making connections just knowing it was possible made a difference.

Yeah, he’s maybe taken it a bit far, but his point is still valid. If I’m talking about my experience with abuse it should be allowed to stand alone. I shouldn’t have to acknowledge its place in the meta.
It’s fine to discuss its place in the wider conversation, but I shouldn’t be forced to engage with it when sharing my experience. When people do try to push this it does unfortunately come across as invalidating my experience.
The original commenter posting that bit makes it seem like they’re minimising their experience for fear of others’ reactions.
They’re just pointing out that Windows does this too.

That’s kinda cool - I’d never heard of the alternate meanings. It’s always been something along the lines of “at your own expense” here.
In my last couple of jobs I’ve found that most of the software required for work is either available as a web app or runs just fine on Linux. There have only been a handful of users needing Windows to do their jobs. It all depends on what your role is.
Sometimes it pays to not go looking for problems.
The staff at such places can decide whether they want to ask a group to move on. Respect their choice to do so and stop trying to police your friends’ behaviours over your own fears.

The strictness really only applies to gun ownership though - if you just want to shoot there’s plenty of places you can do that.
You’ll come across good and bad wherever you travel. When we travelled in Japan a few years ago we found pretty much everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. We didn’t speak any Japanese.
I wouldn’t bother renting a car unless you’ve got a specific plan for it - their public transit is excellent and will still take you out into the countryside if you want.
Maybe. But with the system in place a vote for a third-party candidate is effectively an abstention. I think you’re right that they’re more politically considerate and wanting to make a difference. It’s the desire to make a difference and effectively abstaining that seems incongruous.
