How the fuck is Omarchy “popular”? I’ve been on Linux going on a decade, give or take, and I first knew about it when someone here in Lemmy mentioned that Dell and some other shit companies were proton a few millions on it.

I strongly suggest you nuke Chrome every time you are done using it.

That’s a web site design and architecture issue, not a browser issue. Most web sites are made for Chrome (Chromium-based) browsers, and anything based in Gecko is an afterthought, if anything.

I’d rather just not access a site if Chrome use is mandatory. LibreWolf has been fantastic for me the last 3 years or so. If I really need to access a “Chrome-exclusive” site, I use Brave, and then clear and reset everything in it in case I need it again.

I ended up using mediawiki instead of kiwix-serve. Left my proxmox grabbing the data and its at around 170,000 pages right now. I’m still going to be versioning to make sure I keep the most up to date data, but still have access to the previous versions, as well as getting new articles, and keeping any removed ones if it happens.

Could you share what you did to achieve this? I’ve been planning on doing just that, and have it auto-update every week or so (keeping the previous versions archived, of course) by using kiwix-serve for a static ‘.zim’ file and maybe a cron job for the auto-update. But if you have a better solution, I’d love to know. The deployment I am planning is kind of convoluted to be honest.

Radarr, sonarr, prowlarr (with flaresolverr) and qbittorrent tied to a gluetun instance. Deploy jellyfin, and these rate increases instantly become irrelevant.

That’s a machine ID, GDID is Winblows exclusive. And in my case, I don’t use any big tech crap, so I’m sure that, even if they could get it, they can’t do shit with my machine ID either. I can always nuke my system, reinstall Fedora, and BOOM! new machine ID.

Yes, they can. Every computing device has an ID similar to Windows GDID. You can see yours in Linux with “cat /etc/machine-id”. If I am not mistaken, it changes when you install another distros, but I’ve never checked. Now, since there is a machine ID, using Microsoft services are highly likely to grab that ID, but I am not certain that would happen, I’m just guessing it does, because Microslop. In any case, my suggestion is to remain away from any big tech bullshit as much as your needs will allow.

I think this is one statement that everyone here will get behind.

I don’t trust Chinese either, but I trust the US and the 5 eyes mob even less. Chinese for me is on the “not as bad as the US, UK and AUS” list. The reason being that I could not care less what the Chinese platforms gather on me with what little they can gather (which is not much due to how I use the internet as a whole), but the US, due to the relationship they have with me and with my country can actually do some damage.
