What is nodeBB? A lemmy or piefed alternative or a whole different thing altogether?

So far the USA still provides a competitive funding environment, despite the budget cuts. I suspect that the increasingly limited academic freedom due to the fascist government will become the greater driver of migration.
I’m under the impression that not many people have moved yet and that it’s mostly people returning home (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, they’re great researchers too), but of course acquiring funding takes a while. We’ll have to see how it continues in the next few years.
500 people with over $7.57 billion… Every single one of them could use their money to bring some serious change to the world but choose not to :(
So these ninety or so specific people, is someone keeping a list somewhere?

Absolutely. Typically, the bigger the branding the more you pay for that and the less bang for buck you get. In second hand shopping I do often look at the brands though, because branded things are often better than no name items, but at the same price in that market (e.g. in kilo sales)

I think patience has already run out. It is rather a calculated approach of identifying what does and what doesn’t depend on the USA, and setting up alternatives for those things that do depend on the USA for example through trade deals (Mercosur, India) and investing in independent tech (funding open source projects, governments moving to native tech alternatives).
In the past year the EU has found out that it depends scarily much on the USA, but also that it can be more independent than expected while also having serious economic leverage.

The idea of the Netherlands and Belgium merging is completely detached from reality, adding Luxemburg to that picture makes even less sense. Economically it could be great with the combined harbors of Antwerp and Rotterdam. But historically and culturally it clashes, even between The Netherlands and the Dutch speaking part of Belgium.

That’s good to know!

You’re only missing content if your instance defederates from another and vice versa or if you block instances yourself.
It might be a bit easier to find new communities at first by scrolling through the local feed on a bigger community, but you can also do this without making an account there.
I think stability and speed of an instance are better selection criteria since they effect your experience much more. Piefed instances tend to offer a smooth and fast experience. E.g. piefed.social, piefed.zip, and the others mentioned in one of the other comments.

Russia’s economy might be spiraling downward, but it seems to be a rather slow spiral so far. Let’s see what happens when Ukraine launches the next wave of attacks on oil refineries.

I had been wondering why there was no laser based air defence yet, it seems like the perfect system that doesn’t take from their always too small stockpile of air defence munitions. I guess we’ll have to see if it’s actually effetive on the battlefield and if it can take down big drones (shahed) and missiles down as well.

Wdym with the hype? Stuff like no more aging and solving word hunger?

Not sure if you shared the right link. Somewhere on that page, there’s a bit of info about the post title, but it’s rather limited, not enough to form an opinion.
Like, for what crimes, who does it affect, does it only apply to people with multiple nationalities or can people become stateless, etc…
Please post better source or you risk causing unfounded fearmongering.

Not sure if it’s a world order where America is an afterthought, after all it’s a big market that doesn’t make sense to completely ignore, especially if Trump’s time comes to an end. But for sure it will be a world order set up in a way where states have the option to treat the USA as an afterthought when necessary.
Wanted to test PieFed, mashed the keyboard for a bit. Turns out, PieFed is quite nice, maybe I should make another account with a proper username
