Mkay - are we retconning Wash’s demise, or will this be set well enough before that? Because I’m not sure I can commit without him.
EDIT: According to Deadline, it’s set between the series and the movie in timeline. As I recall, that only gives about six months of in-universe time - I hope they can make the most of it.
Since Joss is said not to be involved, maybe they will retcon it. I kinda hope so - even though the movie was mostly good, I think that was a bad mistake made purely for shock value.
If I were in charge I would pretend Wash never dies. Go right past the movie time period and cover Reaver reveal from a different angle. The movie becomes beta canon and everyone winks at each other when they talk about the death of Wash.
Since this universe has no magic of time travel to magic the problem away I think it’s best to just wink and nod.

I mean, not purely shock value; it ties directly to the philosophical ideas present both throughout the movie and in the last (unaired) episode.
That said…I wouldn’t cry any tears if it were retconnned.
