The tallest peak in Vermont at 4,393’, Mt Mansfield is named and themed for looking like a man’s face. A couple of walls to scramble as well as a small jump (or crabwalk) over a gap to cross pays off with great views and a variety of terrain and scenery. Don’t miss cantilever rock on the way down.

Looking eastward from the summit of Mt Mansfield. A range of mountains unfolds in the smoky haze, with Madonna Peak in the center and Morse mountain and the taller Whiteface mountain on the left.

Peak of ‘The Forehead’ and signpost, with exposed rock trail as the safe zone for walking. I believe that is Madonna Peak and surrounding in the distance.

About halfway down from the face of Mt Mansfield, near where the waist would be, is this interesting rock formation that juts out from the wall, aptly named… Cantilever Rock
