Walz is fine, I was keen on Buttigieg but I’ll happily vote for Walz and let Buttigieg keep his important current position.

My biggest hope is that Kamala will draw out some of the less extreme right leaning women, nobody needs to know that they’re voting for the better candidate and God knows women need allies with the ongoing barrage.

This election cycle is not about fear for me, Harris is an easy candidate to vote for!

Imo cults of personality prey on human nature in the worst ways.

When everyone you listen to and interact with sings praises about somebody or something, and villify anyone who disagrees, you are hard wired to fall in line. It’s literally human nature to sync up with those you listen to, it explains: cults, religions (not yours of course), identity politics, clubs, tribalism, nationalism, and most other isms.

Fundamentally people are categorization machines, putting people who disagree with themselves in a “them” category makes the person in question closer to the “us” group and more likely to radicalize.

Less fundamental/human nature related, trump has fostered the kinds of rhetoric his base likes. He himself may not be a christian anti-abortion redneck, but he has fostered an image that he is and it resonates with some people in a way that cool, collected, reasonable, well spoken politicians simply don’t. They trust him because he sounds dumb and crass.

None of us are in your shoes so it’s really tough to say what your coworkers’ motivations are, but at the end of the day you are yourself, you are in charge of your mental and physical well-being. When someone else does something minor and it affects you strongly it’s time to stop thinking about them and start thinking about what’s happening in your own body.

Unfortunately your emotions, like being offended, aren’t entirely in your control. There are a lot of brain connections rustling around up in your noggin that don’t pass through the filter of your consciousness.

The best advice I can offer is to redirect yourself when you start to get offended. Pick a favorite topic, something that you like to think about often, and “switch” to it when you feel yourself getting triggered.

As for how you should act when you aren’t greeted directly? I see no reason for you to change your behavior, just act as though nothing happened, because nothing did happen

Not sure it’s possible to avoid entirely, as the community here grows we get more of all types, it’s hard to have a truly only-positive community when moderation is voluntary and the masses have full reign to submit literally anything.

Do you think a technology solution would help? Sentiment analysis on posts and gently redirect people to other communities instead of outright blocking them?

Maybe the only real solution is personal resilience and recognizing that we don’t need to feel negative feelings just because we received a negative communication

I think it’s easy to be negative if a person doesn’t consider the human reading their anonymous posts, people feel empowered to take out their problems from life in general on random faceless internet strangers.

We yearn for answers to why we’re here, there’s a reason religion has been such a huge part of there human consciousness for so long, our brains are hard wired to find reasons for everything.

Since there is no known objective answer to this question, I’ll answer it subjectively, recognizing that my life experiences have tainted my views.

Life has no purpose. People who do immense “evil” will not be punished. People who do immense “good” will not be rewarded.

Your existence is a beautiful, flighty phenomenon. You are a heap of octillions of atoms that somehow gained self awareness. Your happiness is merely a chemical exchange in your skull meat, it’s fine to strive for happiness but it’s fleeting.

I personally strive for serenity, accepting reality for what it is and making peace with it. Nothing matters, we’re all going to lose the gift of consciousness through inevitable death, and that’s okay.
