Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a big internal debate within a fandom or hobby you are a part of that outsiders probably wouldn't care about?
12·2 days agoFemale Space Marines. I’m gonna leave before this thread explodes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a song where you like a remix or cover better than the original?
1·3 days agoI came here to say this!
It took a fairly average Sabbath song (not an insult!) and turned it into a headbanging anthem!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What misconception are you tired of being spread?
91·7 days agoThat Dems are Communists. Like, if only.
12 Days of Christmas. Already coming off a shitty genre of music you have a song which requires you sing it multiple fucking times over, and then there’s all the shitty novelty covers which far from enhancing the experience make the whole thing more cringy and exhausting. Top it off, it’s one of those ones everyone expects you to sing along with or you’re a fucken grinch, fucken bullshit song.
Heavy Metal. It’s so excited to show you all its cool stuff!
There are two types of people in the world; those who can extrapolate from incomplete data sets

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What band did you hear one song of, check the rest of their music, and find it was a one-off and none of their other music sounds like that?
2·22 days agoYeah, Fear Factory, Linchpin is a headbanging classic but the rest of their stuff just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe their Cars cover, but that’s it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favourite book you were made to read in school?
3·23 days agoGreat Expectations. I actually developed a liking of Dickens from school, I don’t get the “sentimentality” arguments people make about his writing, a lot of his stories are rawand visceral critiques of Victorian Britain.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a gadget or appliance that you purchased that you would wholeheartedly recommend to others?
6·24 days agoThermal printer. I play a lot of tabletop rpgs and wargames and it helps having the ability to print out handouts without worrying about how much ink I have left!
Reminded me of this

It’s not a lore issue for me, not exactly, more indicative of a change in fandom and corporate culture; Warhammer used to be this creative hobby you could easily put your own mark on, it was encouraged by GW in fact. Any one players Warhammer would look similar but unique to the Warhammer of another player.
Starting around the mid to late 2000s the attitude started to change, coinciding with (though not necessarily caused by) the release of the Horus Heresy books and Age of Sigmar, GW started to put more of an emphasis on lore and copyrightable content, they started to downplay customisation within the hobby and with it the tacit approval to make your own female Space Marines as you so wished.
When I see neckbeards frothing over female Space Marines it’s a disappointing reminder that the hobby has lost its personal touch, plus it’s a chance to piss them off with my Drag theme Ork warband!
