Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the oldest website that's still alive that you've found?English
18·10 days agoFun fact, back in 2018 I emailed them asking if someone would take over once they were not able to have that responsibility, and if so, who. They replied the next day, and just said (copy and pasted from that email):
Yes, it will be. You would not know them.

3·14 days agoThey make countertop dishwashers that connect to your sink, still better than washing by hand imo

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?English
9·22 days agoAgreed on all points, but especially #1. Fuck Nestle. Every time I buy a new product at the grocery store, I check to make sure they’re not made by Nestle or a subsidiarity of Nestle.

3·22 days agoIf the house flips, though, then the Epstein investigation along with other things can proceed, and the House can block bills before they go to the senate or president. So while it won’t fix anything outright, it can stop more damage.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the best most nutritionally complete soup?English
3·30 days agoAbsolutely, and I didn’t mean to imply white rice was healthy or anything of the sort, or that you had an extremist take. I just think the lower class in the US has much more to worry about in this regard. You can definitely balance your carb intake, and as long as you’re aware of the amount of carbs you’re consuming and want white rice, I say go for it. You do need carbs to survive, after all, although carbs with fiber are obviously better suited for that.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the best most nutritionally complete soup?English
2·30 days agoI mean, it is true that white rice could be considered filler food with little nutritional value, but compared to other cheap foods (in the US anyway), it’s probably better for you. I suppose I’m talking primarily talking about the heavily processed foods with added sugars - it would be better to have something with white rice than those. Unfortunately cheap, heavily processed foods are what most lower income people eat in the US. I consider those foods the actual pre-diabetic junk food. I also think a lot of people in the US likely add a ton of sugar to their oatmeal.
I love oatmeal, though, don’t get me wrong. I have oodles of oats around, both in my pantry and with my other emergency supplies (I’m talking about a dozen #10 cans of just oats).

9·1 month agoYou can probably blame the people selling 3d printed dragons and other slop at conventions for your sales drying up, assuming you don’t sell those. That fully made people think that 3d printing was a novelty, unfortunately.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you feel AI is going to be as bad as the movies say?English
2·2 months agoHoly shit, you’re too far gone. Yes, I’ve operated my own local LLM front end for personal use and have run them frequently in the past at a low level with no front end and messed with parameters directly. I’ve modified models as well, and I have a server designed to run them. It’s insane that you think those apply to his topic (billionaires lying to you). You’re just throwing random terminology out to make yourself seem smart and to reinforce your stance, but all that does is make you seem insecure about your knowledge. It does quite the opposite of what you intend.
All LLMs do is hallucinate, and sometimes, by pure coincidence, get things correct. This is why it’s impossible to get rid of hallucinations. They do not think, they do not have their own goals (refusing a request can be baked in, but that’s no different than programming something with guardrails), and they certainly will not suddenly become sentient. LLMs cannot do that, by design. Perhaps something else could, but LLMs are not that.
You really had to go to insults for this? I think you need to touch grass and stop believing billionaire marketing. LLMs are not technologically capable of doing what you have been brainwashed to believe. They will crash the economy when the bubble bursts, because MBAs and billionaires have convinced you and rich VCs that they can do more than they actually can.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you feel AI is going to be as bad as the movies say?English
2·2 months ago“what they are going to do” is exactly that: marketing. It’s not technically feasible, they just want to ride the bubble a little longer and convince people otherwise (like they’ve convinced you)

It’ll cure your anxiety once and for all

My fucking neighbors just keep letting their outdoor only cats reproduce and get mad when they meow for kibble. It’s the worst. My county has a well funded TNR and last litter program, but they don’t give a shit. I’ve done TNR of at least 8 or 9 cats and they just keep coming.
These aren’t even the completely wild and feral cats or anything (since the shitty neighbors feed them from time to time) although I’m sure their offspring has made some feral cats by now. It’s horrible.
