Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.mlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•people keep talking about how "em dashes" are evidence of ai. i use them all the time. am i a computer now?4·1 month agoPush dash twice on a phone, no alt code needed. Almost no one uses social media on a computer anymore.
Tortillas. Just tortillas. Warmed over a gas burner. It’s a comfort food to me now, but there was a time when all I had was tortillas, and it tastes better than my other struggle meal, which was a single cup of rice with whatever spices I had on hand and hadn’t put on the previous day. I lost a lot of weight around then. Still haven’t fully gained it back ten plus years later, and still struggle eating regularly more than once or twice a day.

What happens in China if someone can't pay rent?3·2 months agoAlso because WeChat is definitively the best app on the internet for communicating with their Chinese friends and family both at home and abroad.

I had one around when Miles Morales first came out and it was so bad I thought my tv was broken, and Samsung agreed and sent a guy to replace the panel. The new panel did the same thing though, and at that point I just sold it and bought an OLED.

Long since dead here. Nothing but scams and data harvesting.

Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•if you ever dropped water or liquids on a notebook and placed it in a bucket full of rice afterwards, did the notebook work again?7·1 year agoAnd open it up and clean the shit out of it because non-distilled water leaves a lot of contaminants even after it dries.
Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.mlto Technology@beehaw.org•Slack users horrified to discover messages used for AI training2·1 year agoIt’s not no matter what. It’s under the system we have they are not only not punished for doing so, they are heavily incentivized to do so. There are ways to punish bad actors that de-incentivize other potential bad actors, our politicians actively choose to prioritize these bad actors ability to do harm over the well being of the population.

There used to be an unlisted YouTube video by Gray(Grey?) Newell that showed off what they were working on back a few years ago, too.
Alas, I have just enough native blood to not be able to grow a beard, and not enough to not go bald. Worst of both worlds haha

Buckleys version had tons of radio play in the late 90s.
Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the most expensive thing you broke as a kid and what's the story behind it?5·1 year agoThat’s a great story! An Xbox mod chip was my first soldering job! It was a Team Xecutor chip, and I too used an old, terrible iron. I’m honestly not even sure how I did it, when I got more into soldering later, and looked up that chips installation process, I was amazed I was able to do it. My dad got me the mod chip even though he hated gaming because he thought correctly that it would be a great learning opportunity for me. He always supported my curiosities and hobbies. I’ve got to go thank him now. Thanks for sharing the story with me.
Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the most expensive thing you broke as a kid and what's the story behind it?3·1 year agoIt was done for, he got another one but it wasn’t nearly as expensive. It wouldn’t be for quite a few more years before I learned how to non-destructively disassemble things, and I didn’t have access to many tools. I can barely remember now but I’m pretty sure I used a butter knife to get out screws and pry stuff open. I just didn’t understand how a little box could record videos and I had to try to figure it out. I was probably 7 or 8, based on where I lived when it happened.
That’s called taxes. That’s literally what taxes are, destruction of currency. Go pay your taxes to the treasury in cash, they will literally shred it.
