You’ve sold your soul for a very slightly better handjob. Nowhere does the contract say it’s mind-blowingly better.

Would be a nubjob, and wouldn’t be as hard to be better than.
Or you get your hands removed

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who have worked in customer service: Did you ever get hit with a "Do you know who I am!?" Did you in fact know who they were?
6·1 month agoI work for the NHS. I’d lose my job if I told anyone what famous people I’ve worked with.
Not that I have met anyone famous at work.
Do some resistance training to restrengthen your legs, and start building stamina through cycling (standing or outdoor). Cycling is great because it’s possible to go from extremely low intensity (barely faster than walking pace) to vomit intensity with no change in impact.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has there ever been an industry that's been "enshittified" and then un-"enshittified"?
2·2 months agoI like a session IPA, genuinely. It’s just when all you taste is stupidly bitter hops that I can’t be arsed.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?
21·2 months agoUK
I got hit by a driver a couple of years ago. Ambulance to A&E was free. Triage and being seen was free. CT was free. Sling for broken clavicle was free. I had 6 weeks off work due to lingering effects of concussion - getting signed off by the doctor was free.
I usually see the GP once or twice a year for minor things and those visits are always free.
My partner’s antidepressants are free. Therapy is free. Birth control is free.
In Scotland all prescriptions are free.
I can’t imagine having to consider finances in the event of any health issues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Christians of Lemmy, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an Al photo of him as Christ?
7·3 months agoI think reducing his discussion to
well, actually, if we interpret it like this instead
does him a disservice. Why not consider the contexts in which all the interpretations have been made? If many of the details are flimsily translated, but the core message of love is consistent then why must people who would prefer Christianity to be a religion of kindness keep telling Christians that they are hateful?
This coming from a non-religious, non-spiritual person.

5·3 months agoInitially I was upset when I heard about John Peel passing away because I listened to him so much - possibly more his Home Truths show on Radio 4 than the Peel Sessions for which he was better known. Listening to him talk to regular people about their lives was a regular feature of my Saturday mornings.
Later I learned about his sexual abuse of teenagers and now don’t care about him at all.

Hmm… Speaking as a nurse, the benefits seem to be severely underestimated. You are basically guaranteed work because there will always be sick people. If you need flexibility there’s usually a department or specialty that will fit the hours you need, or you go locum. It is actually as interesting as you want it to be; if you want a specialty then there’s usually a route to advance along it. It opens up other avenues, e.g. public health, health research, admin (if you’ve lost your soul). It’s very social, and patients are often more than happy to talk if you like people. If you don’t like people then you just make sure you’re obviously concentrating and they’ll usually shut up.
If someone wanted to do science then went into nursing, then they’re probably doing practical sciences and don’t have to be missing out at all.
A great way to learn the cool shit doctors learn is to ask them about it.
