  • I remember reading a study awhile ago that was kind of shocking:

Most people when they make a mistake/s need someone/thing to show them why it was a poor decision and how it led to consequences.

Less people than that are able to learn from their mistakes on their own.

And the smallest group, people that just flat out never learn, even if everyone points it out to them.

  • I know it’s not for everyone, and I myself enjoy tinkering, but I bet finding a used Kindle who’s firmware stopped being current and jail breaking would be a solid choice.

I just jail broke my older Kindle paper white 7the gen (2015), not even a week ago. I didn’t use it that often because it was always sluggish and can’t stand non snappy UI.

Holy hell this thing is sooooo much better now. I use KOReader only, and have a launcher shortcut that kills Amazon’s “framework” before launching, which stops all of their software from running in the background.

The UI is responsive, more customizable, drains less battery, and instead of ads while sleeping, it displays a blacked out version of the book cover I’m reading.

It also got me started with Calibre to sync and manage epubs instead, and KOReader has a built in tool to connect and sync the books.

It wasn’t difficult, but it was time consuming making sure I understood everything first, and didn’t miss a step. They even have an app store for jail broken Kindles now that made installing anything needed after jail breaking much much easier. I’d be surprised if someone hasn’t made a planner to download.

I was able to use the older WinterBreak exploit, and the current and sadly already patched exploit is called AdBreak.

  • This got me thinking back on reading the book earlier this year. Mr. Arnold really was the super star of the entire operation. Nedry might have been mostly qualified but heavily overworked, and underpaid of his own fault, but everyone would have died and much much sooner if not for Arnold. That man knew all the ins and outs of the entire park, enough to even debug and fix Nedrys code.

  • But was also an alcoholic, and shows how poorly Hammond did in cheaping out and not hiring the best outside of the scientist and their facilities.

To be fair to Muldoon though, he was probably the only wild life expert with about as relevant experience as one could have, and balls big enough to take on the challenge of carnivorous dinosaurs. He did about as good as anyone could have hoped for against the raptors in the book.

  • PC SSDs when they first came out, I saved $ and splurged for 256 GB over 128 GB. In the first week I was slightly upset I didn’t save more $ and go for a big expensive 512 GB one. Immediately I was telling my other PC gaming friends it’s going to revolutionize PCs in general, and to get one ASAP!

Edit: I can’t remember shit for fuck, but the size I bought was probably quite smaller than 256 GB lol.

  • I’m legit scared to try them on, and be overwhelmed by how comfortable they are that I don’t care about their looks. But the fact they’re the shoes from Idiocracy is keeping me from ever trying. IIRC they weren’t even released to the public yet, and Mike Judge was like these are perfect, ain’t no way anyone would ever be caught dead in these ugly ass shoes.
