If there are any water pipes through the second half of the house you cannot let those exterior walls reach freezing temperatures. Whatever solution you go with needs to account for the entire space in some capacity.

That’s… not remotely true? Linux can absolutely install kernel drivers. If you mean running windows games under wine then sure, but then we’re no longer talking apples:apples. You could do the same thing on windows by running a game in a VM.
This is correct, as in windows a driver is the most straightforward method to runlevel0 access. It absolutely could at any time do exactly what crowdstrike did. But also so could Nvidia/amd with GPU drivers, your motherboard manufacturer with chipset and RGB drivers, etc. it’s not quite the smoking gun people make it out to be, as there are a lot of legitimate reasons to have this kind of system access.
The egregious part was that crowdstrike users agreed to allow a vendor to bypass canary channels and deploy straight to their endpoints.
Endpoint is any PC/laptop/sign/POS/etc. It’s a catchall term for anything that isn’t a server. it basically refers to any machine that might be logged into and used by a non-IT user.
I think most of us blocked it out
I support your position in principle, but canceled my own nitro when they did the android app redesign. It went from really snappy (respecting system animation scale settings) to completely ignoring them. It feels like molasses compared to every other phone app that operates at the system set 0.25 animation scale.
They also completely broke foldable support, and if your device changes aspect ratios inside a chat, you have to restart your client to get it to behave correctly again.
The enshittification is real and I am voting with my wallet.
Xmpp is by design, an extensible protocol. There just doesn’t seem to be any motivation to develop for it.
“Phonk” traditionally referred to the music style itself without lyrics, but as most emerging music styles do, it’s evolved into a sort of new-age emo/grunge mix of Phonk, Hip-Hop, and Alternative Rock. All of the below can be considered modern phonk, even though in the strictest sense, traditional phonk is lyricless. A lot of people will know the “phonk walk” song Why Not by Ghostface Playa
https://www.youtube.com/@trash-gang This youtube channel has popularized many of the rising artists in the genere as it’s evolved over the last 3-4 years, and if you’re looking for some recommendations from an enthusiast, check out (in no particular order):
Since you seem very interested in good faith arguments: Please cite me the law that reserves you rights from random internet forum moderators. I cannot prove a negative.
Also, if this place were a democracy, judging by the upvote/downvote ratios in this thread, it seems you’ve been voted off the island. Perhaps you should consider yourself lucky this is an autocracy.
The point of federation is you can make your own competing community on your own or another server, people can “vote” by following you or not.
Also, Lemmy is not a democracy, there are no laws in any server’s home nation that make it a democracy. He has no obligation to treat it like a democracy. You can project your ideals all you like but if you want to be an autocrat that enforces democracy you’re going to have to learn how hosting works.
If anything, that mod showed incredible restraint. Why are you expecting socratic debates in a shitposting community anyway?
If they don’t matter currently for moderation I have to imagine they’ll be part of a moderation toolkit eventually. Leveraging community voting to detect spam would be decently effective, especially for fresh accounts.
I don’t think I understand your example but I feel like people downvoting you without arguing the math is something that should be left to twitter and reddit.
What would it cost to retrieve though? You probably still have the appropriate cost-effective solution but it’s an important consideration for newcomers to have complete math.
I would be very interested to see the percentage of lemmy users that were reddit users right up until the point they switched primary platforms. I have to imagine that number is near 99%.
I put the napkin math at closer to 5,000-10,000. Judging by how few people the average person interacts with on the daily, and how many people are also in happy relationships from a selection within that tiny sample size of the world populace. It really stands to reason that there are a lot more compatible matches out there than our romantic notions care to admit.
That said, the chances of actually having a meaningful interaction with more than 0-2 without heavily investing time and effort in meeting new people is also pretty slim.
Is that not how it works though? Lol
Unironically that’s how zram works
If you want an actual ELI5:
Bad DRM is like bad parents. When you want a new toy, and you’re 5 years old, you have to ask your parents to get it for you; you can’t just go get it yourself if you want to. Lets say you want a new bicycle. You ask your parents to get you a new bicycle, and they get one for you! But, they say that you’re only allowed to ride your bicycle between 10 and 11pm. They also tell you that you can’t ride your bicycle with 2 feet, or 2 hands, you have to use 1 foot and 1 hand. On weekdays, 10pm is past your bedtime so you really can’t ride it at all. On weekends, it’s dark out at 10pm most of the year so it’s really hard to see. The few times you do get to ride it, it’s really hard to ride because you can only hold on with 1 hand and pedal with 1 foot.
Even with good DRM (parents) that let you ride your bicycle during the daytime and with both your hands and feet, they are always the ones in control. They might tell you today that you can ride your bicycle anytime and anyway you want, but if you get a bad grade, or they are just in a bad mood (for the adults: profit motivated) they can at any time exercise the control they have and take your bike away, or tell you that the only way you can use it are ways you don’t want to use it.
It 100% is part of the character; so is the accent if you didn’t know. He speaks a perfect Midwestern accent when not in character
