Well, I just bought a new motorcycle. Going to pick it up later and do some riding. That makes things worth living.

Here’s the way I look at it. This is your life and you get to play it out as you please. It’s really none of my business to begin with, and I am not really sure how this would come up in casual conversation, so I am hoping to most people it’s just not even a topic. I have kids, I have friends that have kids, and even with that basic amount of knowledge we don’t sit around chatting about things like that. Don’t overthink this, and keep in mind that you make your own decisions. Just because you don’t have kids doesn’t mean anything either. I have friends with no kids, and gotta say, sometimes I am a little envious. Wouldn’t change anything, but it’s nothing to feel bad about. Lighten up on yourself and just do what you want to do.
Lemmy seems a lot less toxic than Reddit.
Not sure I am seeing the same. I posted a message about a bash command yesterday and it was almost immediately downvoted. And I have no idea why since it should work for what the person asking wanted/needed. That was one of my big issues with reddit was the sheer negativity that came out of that site and I know I am talking about a single downvote here, but it makes me pause. It has happened more than this one time which is why I get that feeling. I think some people really need to revisit the use of the downvote.
I mean, what else do you use for entertainment in AIX.
I once accidentally deleted all of our production portal apps in AIX. That was entertaining…
Not sure what circles you run in, but it’s talked about a lot with my family and friends. We quote it quite a bit. But hey, my brain is not a good brain.
Mid 80’s Bronco. My ex insisted that she had to have a bronco. It had a 302 in it, but holy hell. I am sure it was the fact that they were still trying out emissions schemes but I bet it had less than a hundred hp. It would barely move out of it’s own way, and if you got about 6mpg you considered yourself lucky. Toss in an oil leak and it was like driving the Exxon Valdez. I can’t decide if the best day of my life was getting rid of the bronco, or her…
Narrator: Both…
You really have to love the fact that people are getting downvoted in this thread for their own fucking opinion…
I think I got about 2 minutes into Forrest Gump before I had to turn it off. Cannot stand that fake accent Tom Hanks has in that movie. And yes, that’s a hill I will die on.
Same. I have no desire to be informed every time someone takes a shit, or does something AmaZIng!
I think you are mistaking publicly available with public. Just because reddit made everyone’s posts publicly available doesn’t mean they are public. Once you post something, they have the right to use that data in any way they choose, and you agreed to that when you signed up. Per their user agreement:
"You retain any ownership rights you have in Your Content, but you grant Reddit the following license to use that Content:
When Your Content is created with or submitted to the Services, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, prepare derivative works of, distribute, store, perform, and display Your Content and any name, username, voice, or likeness provided in connection with Your Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed anywhere in the world. This license includes the right for us to make Your Content available for syndication, broadcast, distribution, or publication by other companies, organizations, or individuals who partner with Reddit. You also agree that we may remove metadata associated with Your Content, and you irrevocably waive any claims and assertions of moral rights or attribution with respect to Your Content."
Because they allow anyone to see the posts doesn’t make it “public” data, it just means that they are allowing you access to the data they now have a license to. Now lets say you work for a state agency. Any work you do is property of said state and is public. I believe the same goes for some government agencies, like NASA. The work they produce is public. That’s completely different than reddit allowing you to post on their platform and then allowing others to see your post. They can do whatever they want with the data, including turning it off one day and just sitting on it if they wanted. Expecting anything public from a private company, well good luck with that. Back to lemmy, well even if you blocked all AI from scraping from an instance, nothing would stop a company from just setting up their own instance, federating it, and just sucking up all the info as it comes in. Nothing you post on here will ever be private.
I think people are about to learn a hard lesson on the internet. Nothing is ever private if it is online.
I was downvoted to fuck when I suggested this as a conspiracy theory on reddit. One of the reasons I left that place, because of the toxicity. I thought it was a thought that might have had some merit. You don’t really know what’s behind the glass on that sensor.
It was a funny comment. If you have limited mobility and can’t just leave the house, and I am nearby, I would be happy to help you out. Not gonna dox myself in public but lets start with a general area, central Tx. PM me on here.
Make sure you get the right burn cream when you are out!!
My goofy theory is that we are in a simulation, and we go through every life once. Round robin style. That way, when they end the simulation, no one can complain that they had a worse time than someone else. Everyone gets one go around as each person. One time you are the poor guy skinned alive by barbarians, and one time you are some rich billionaire with more money than brains. Then, when the simulation is over, who knows.
I might have to work on that so I have something at least usable. Thanks for the idea.
I am in the same boat. I was doing some drawing for a DnD game, and my son who is almost 30 asked me if that was something he or his siblings drew as a kid. I should have just gone with that, because the audible laugh kind of stung a little.
Thanks for the card holder recommendation!! I was just sitting here trying to figure out what to get my boardgame peeps for their birthdays and needed something by this weekend. This should be perfect.
Well it wasn’t my nutsack that got caught. But honestly at that point in time, I seriously doubt it matters. It was just pain, followed by more pain.
My son picked up a refurbished Ipad mini that we were going to use as a screen for our quadcopters. Well, you can’t load any software on it so it’s just a worthless piece of shit. Way to go apple.
