I had never heard Trent Reznor’s original or Johnny Cash’s cover so thank you for mentioning it. What an incredible music video!

You can contest that sort of thing with your bank if you are quick about it. Probably too late now, but I had something similar happen and that’s how I resolved it. In my case, the rumor was the owner of the website had died
scientists at Cambridge guesstimated it would take making it into a significant side-dish or main course to REALLY fuck you up
I actually heard about this from a YouTube channel referencing the diary of Gerrit de Veer from 1597 where he recounted his expeditions’ encounter with eating polar bear liver and nearly dying from it in 1596.
I can’t find the actual diary entry, but I think it’s behind a pay wall on the Wikipedia link as a reference.
The story the YouTuber told was presumably in the diary. He said their ship got stuck in ice and they used wood from the ship to make a cabin. Sometime later, they had a run-in with a polar bear and ended up shooting it from inside the cabin. Sometime after that, they had a group meal consuming the polar bear liver and everybody’s skin started falling off.
Very few actually! Apparently some Dutch explorers back in the 1500s trying to sail over the top of the globe got stuck in ice and ended up killing and eating a polar bear and documented their illnesses
We didn’t figure out what happened to them until the 1940s
Definitely not lol
I’m just yanking you chain. In all seriousness though, I’m curious if you could enable finger tracking on a headset and line up your physical buttons with the virtual ones. Could be insanely immersive if the scale is correct!
You went through all this trouble and you’re not even playing it in VR? Tsk tsk
Nobody has mentioned it yet, but https://fedi-search.com/ already exists
I actually just looked into this, and no state in America can legally pay an employee less than $7.25/hr. If you as the employee don’t make enough in tips to make your wage at least $7.25/hr, the employer has to pay beyond the $2.13/hr to make sure you always make at least $7.25/hr, not that $7.25/hr is even remotely a livable wage in 2023…
You should take a look at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_states_by_minimum_wage and see what the minimum wage is in the state you are visiting. The minimum wage where I am is one of the highest in the nation so I don’t tip anymore.
Edit: I am aware many states have below federal minimum for tipped employees. My point was if they’re visiting one of the states with a high minimum wage, they should forgo tipping. Nobody below bothered to link it, but here’s the minimum wage page for tipped employees: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/state/minimum-wage/tipped. It’s worth noting that even in the states that can pay tipped employee as little as $2.13/hr, the employees never actually make less than the federal minimum of $7.25/hr because the employer has to make up the difference if the employee doesn’t make enough in tips, not that $7.25/hr is even remotely a livable wage in 2023…
Regardless, tipping is an inherently flawed system, and it’s not the responsibility of the consumer to pay specifically the server a living wage while everyone in the kitchen suffers (I would know, I’ve been there). If you’re not happy with the wage laws in your state, get involved in politics and exercise your right to vote to do something about it.
Whoever is in charge of discuss.tchncs.de has converted the community search into a lemmy content search
I edited my post to include a video I highly recommend you watch as it will better explain what I was saying.
It’s not the drivers. I suppose you could say drivers have become slightly more distracted due to touchscreen consoles, but the real issue is vehicles keep getting larger and pedestrians no longer ride up the hood onto the roof when being hit by a car. Instead you are hit by a 5 foot tall wall (grill) and die, and the driver doesn’t brake because they never even saw you due to the enormous blind spot in front of their truck/suv
EDIT: I’m getting a disturbing amount of pushback on this comment, so I’m dropping this video here: These Stupid Trucks are Literally Killing Us | Not Just Bikes
I was actually mistaken, and it’s worse than I realized. You can’t use ad guard in Safari anymore: https://www.zdnet.com/article/apple-neutered-ad-blockers-in-safari-but-unlike-chrome-users-didnt-say-a-thing/
They have the operating system so locked down there aren’t any ad blockers anyways unless you use Safari
I am currently using a PWA of discuss.tchncs.de because they have a sort by top of the hour, six hours, and 12 hours, which is awesome
I kinda fear that Apple might turn evil and start banning apps from the app store
I don’t know what rock you’ve been living under, but I’ve been using iOS since day one and Apple has been banning apps left and right this entire time. Most just don’t make it on in the first place. Sometimes they sneak hidden features in though like so: https://www.imore.com/game-boy-emulator-sneaks-app-store-disguised-messaging-app
