I mean… To be a little bit fair, the middle east doesn’t police things nearly as much as a general rule. Lots of people break the law with zero consequences. I lived next door to Saudi for a time and it was a little better where I was but still a world of difference in adherence to and enforcement of general laws compared to most western countries.

Nah, not harsh at all. I understand your perspective and agree that it’s a bad look to stay in a place that does bad things. I greatly disagree with the church on many points and have been on the edge of leaving for a long time. My wife and I talk about various things on the near daily honestly including all the bullshit they have done to women. We both have our own wounds from the church.

I see through the gaslighting. I’m under no illusions that the church has some fucked up past and present. Much like our own country though, which also has fucked up past and preseng, if people don’t try to enact good, it won’t come on its own and the assholes win. I’m not ready to throw everything away that is good when I can see the bad being removed, and it is happening. Despite the old guard clinging to their bullshit I see more and more of us pushing back against that and trying to correct the wrongs of the people that came before. Very few things in this world are all good or all bad. Especially anything with history to it. And if no one tells people they are in the wrong, then people will rarely question themselves if they are.

And in that same vein, I appreciate your words. And I will honestly take them to heart and consider more thoughtfully if my time with the church needs to be done. Because you are right, how long can one be in any group without being an accessory to its actions?

There are a lot of members that don’t agree with the church’s approach to the LGBTQIA+ community. They hope to change things from within and don’t always leave because they hold out hope things will change. Not all mormons are the fuckin mindless whack jobs, though there are plenty of those around. Plenty are really normal people and they disagree with the way the church handles certain topics.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a fantasy setting to adopt a more adult tone and intention. Having more complex plots and dialogue. I think a of of the people liking Andor are in that category. They want to see Star Wars grow up and put behind the camp and cheery kid show shit.

I really don’t think anything justifies the massive data collection that currently happens. While “feeding the algorithm” may be their superficial excuse, data harvesting is really there for the resale value.

I don’t want to keep them from it. I just prefer they go to their other platforms for it. Because by inviting it to this platform, it degrades this platform in my eyes. I don’t have another place to go to get away from that content, they do have a place they can go to for that content. I’d appreciate it if we can respect that boundary. Keep this place free from the corporations that are destroying so much of our world. At least as much as possible. Nothing good can come from opening this door, and if it opens, history will repeat itself once more because there is always a new crop of people unwilling to listen to warnings. No good comes from aligning with growth at all costs corporations. It just isn’t possible.

I get why some want it. I just wish they’d stop. They want ease of access to all the things they like. I hate those other platforms and have no accounts on them and I don’t want to see them here and prefer the community driven content over yet another algorithm pushing garbage I hate. They always try to spin their algorithms as finding content you want and tailoring it to you. But it’s never the case. They take the vile shit that they support and push that, mingling it with a few crumbs of real content. And eventually the crumbs disappear too. I don’t want any of that corporate nonsense around. I really like a good large community without that influence.

That’s an awesome suggestion. It didn’t work out for me though. The page never loaded. Probably a conflict with one of my extensions.
