Beautiful work, I really like your style!
Great lightning!
Thank you! It’s digital, using Photoshop brushes based on charcoal on paper.
Thanks! Charcoal on paper with some smudging by hand.
Lovely work! It looks so simple, in a way, yet it feels like you’ve perfectly captured the scene. Love it. What sort of pen are you using?
Amazing work and cute subject matter! Also hats off for all that stippling work, I always love seeing it but utterly lack the patience.
Ain’t that the truth.
I love the strict composition, beautiful work!
Thank you! Yes it’s charcoal.
I love the dynamic in that one!
There’s something oddly calming about this piece, I really like it.
Lovely work, thanks for sharing!
I tried tapping into the platonic ideal of the foreboding dark tower that we see in so many of our narratives, so I’m glad my piece managed to send you down this path! Including 2001 of course (though not quite a tower), hence the name. I wasn’t familiar with Robert Browning’s poem, thanks for the link!
The idea grew organically during the process of painting :) Starting with a hazy grey sky I felt like contrasting it with a bold, black shape that also emphasizes its verticality. From there I just knew that it had to be a prototypical foreboding dark monolith, towering over a vast, plain landscape (or sea, as it ended up being); backlit by what might be the sun, contrasting both the blackness of the monolith and the drabness of the sky.
Much appreciated, I try my best to keep exploring and to not repeat myself too much :)
By using a different kind of charcoal :) In this case I used willow charcoal for the background, which turns out lighter than the charcoal I usually use.
Charcoal on paper, using a neat little technique I came across while experimenting with different desktop surfaces :)
No, but I see a bit of a similarity now that you mention it. I don’t think a warp drive would leave such a trail tho
Amazing work, I’m thoroughly impressed by the precision of your strokes and love how it feels both organic and rigidly structured at the same time!
