I’ve started reading the somewhat expansive Cosmere universe of books by Brandon Sanderson.

I like actually reading, but there is a LOT to get through, so I’m reading the series (a couple trilogies, a series of 5 books) in actual print, and listening to the standalone novels in the universe on audio.

It’s actually been a nice day to keep moving through all the different overlapping character lines. One particular character, who I’ll call H, spans the various worlds and stories often. It’s fun reading something about H in one book and then hearing him as the narrator or showing up as a character in the audio book I’m listening to later.

Ok so the whole “the other kids are just jealous” thing is, I think, disengenious.

Sometimes kids just suck. They make fun of other kids for anything. They aren’t necessarily jealous. They might be uncomfortable. They might be vindictive at the time. They might basically be playing “spot the difference” (i.e. that kid dances, my friend doesn’t dance, look that’s different) so they make fun of one side of that equation.

In this case, I feel like the kids probably were not jealous. I feel like they were just idiot kids. Same end result but I don’t know, it seems unhelpful to bullying victims to just tell them that everyone is jealous of them, sadly that’s not usually the case.

I think it is great that you were able to gain so much from reading his books. I personally did not. That is not to say the values you drew from them are invalid in any way. It’s not an assault on you personally. You liked his books, I didn’t. Both of those things are ok. So no, I am not joking. While I have read other works that impress me to the level that you describe, Game of Thrones did not do so for me.

Game of thrones, for me. Made for a good basis for a show. Fucking terribly dull to read.

Ok I was curious. I’m not a metal fan in the slightest but I gave Archspire a listen. That was really cool! Felt like an evolution of Polyipha. I probably won’t listen to them again but I really enjoyed hearing it for the first time - excellent recommendation!

I appreciate your optimisim but at least in the USA, this is never happening.

I’ve had a 13in for like 2 years now? Running Fedora KDE.

Software-wise, it is nearly flawless. Linux always has some gimmicks but the Framework experience has been on par with a Dell XPS 13 that I have also run Fedora on in the past.

Hardware-wise, also been pretty nice. Battery life is ok, not amazing. I broke the screen on a trip one time - I bought a replacement from the website and did the maintenance myself to put the new one in. Not going to lie, that felt pretty awesome (and I’ve built many high complexity desktops in the past). Fixing your own laptop isn’t something you can usually do.

The touch pad is currently haven’t some issues, so I’ll replace that too eventually.

Quirks: Touch pad responsiveness was never excellent but certainly serviceable. The 4:3 screen ratio is odd to some people, though I personally really enjoy it.

At this point I can’t picture myself going back to laptops I can’t repair myself. It has been a breath of fresh air. If you care less about thst and want just the best Linux experience on a high end machine, Dell XPS might still be the one, but Framework comes very close in my opinion.
