  • I also think instances just need to have more sane urls. It sounds silly but like it or not branding does matter. Instances like beehaw and sh.itjust.works just rub me the wrong way during first impressions. Even some of my friends who I’ve tried to introduce to Lemmy are just like…“what the fuck kinda website are you making me go to?” I am not surprised that lemmy.world is big, partly because the URL actually sounds official.

We also need super-communities that pull in content from multiple communities/instances, better multi-instance search, and a way to migrate between instances before the masses will be okay with smaller instances.

Hey, it’s a great username XD. Yeah, I think oftentimes passionate people will see a fight where there isn’t one, but sometimes we all gotta chill out and remember that there’s a human on the other end.

Anyways, welcome to the Fediverse! Cheers 🍺

Oh not at all! I totally took this comment thread as just a legit discussion, not an argument, so you’re good. I hope I didn’t sound like I was making a rebuttal. I was just trying to give more info and context, that’s all!

Lol, tone over text is just hard to convey properly isn’t it? Probably doesn’t help that Internet culture is neck deep in trolling and stirring up unnecessary controversy and drama.

  • Only thing i don’t realy get is what the point of having it divided in different service is

You can think of them like different email clients. Sure, different email clients all send and receive the same messages via IMAP / POP / SMTP, but they offer different user experiences. Some users might prefer Thunderbird, others Outlook, etc.

Same thing with Lemmy, kbin, and Mastodon. They all post content via ActivityPub, but some users might prefer the microblogging experience of Mastodon, or the UI of Lemmy or Kbin. I am sure other projects will come along too if the Fediverse takes off that caters to other users’ needs.

It’s only been a few weeks since the redditpocalypse and the devs are busy fixing scaling bugs to handle the crazy influx of new users. Most of the deletion issues are simply due to bugs in the code creating more load than there should be, which in turn breaks or delays federation. I think getting the scaling issues out of the way first will provide a solid foundation to fix these other bugs, and given how well lemmy.world is performing with the recent 0.18.1 update, progress is definitely moving at a fast pace!

I am sure these things will get hammered out in time by the devs and the open source community in the main Lemmy source code or as a separate project. Contrary to what OP thinks, people ARE talking about it and the people building the Fediverse are aware.

There is no taking back what you post on the internet, but with activity pub it’s almost guaranteed to not have been processed.

This is a bug, not the intended design with federation.

Pretty sure your deletion issues was due to the federation issues that Lemmy was experiencing before the latest round of patches. I’ve had issues where federation didn’t even publish my comment to other instances.

I am sure once all the bugs get ironed out, these deletion issues will go away.
