Calling everyone who disagrees with you “thin skinned little children” makes you look like a child. It makes it seem like you really do care that they don’t share your opinion.

If you hate the movies because they don’t respect the lore, I’m sorry to say I don’t think your opinion really matters.

To explain why, I’ll share my own experience. I am a massive fan of Dune, I’ve read the series multiple times and consider it my favourite art/series/thing. I kind of hated the recent movies because in my opinion they didn’t understand the source material and adapted it in a way that ruined what made the books so amazing to me. I couldn’t separate the movies from the books and it ruined my experience of watching the movies.

My point is that if you are so invested in the lore and backstory, you’re probably not able to assess the movies on their own merit. The prequels are god awful movies and you seem to have no issue with them.

BTW I’m not defending the sequels at all except to say that I thought FA was a fine movie.

Finally! All the complaints about the plot essentially being a redo of ANH are completely valid, but they don’t make it a bad movie. It’s actually fun to watch and the characters have some character, which is not something you can say about a certain crowd favourite around here…

This is pure fantasy. Cable did not have everything in one place for cheaper. Unless you paid extra you only had the default channels where you had to watch everything at a specific time or pay extra for a PVR to record and even then you didn’t have access to entire backlogs of TV shows. If you wanted to watch front to back a show you had to pay $100+ for the box set.

Yeah streaming is getting worse and worse but if you told me I had to choose between cable and a single streaming service I’d pick the streaming service every time.

I think people are questioning the ethics of Batman more these days given how discussions around poverty and crime has changed. Given how crime is more often than not a result of poverty and a lack of social safety net than greed or lack of morals, the ethics of Batman bypassing the justice system¹ and beating the shit out of henchman comes into question.

My exposure to this line of thinking was FD Signifier’s video on edge lords, but I haven’t seen other people talk about it until now.

I can’t really remember Hilda but I remember liking it. I think these recommendations are a similar vibe. I also did not like Gravity Falls but should probably give it another try since I didn’t give it a fair shot.

Dara, Steven Universe, Bee and Puppycat would be my recommendations.** I’ve ranted about them below trying to describe them but honestly you should probably just ignore my rant and watch some episodes since they are all short.**

It’s been a while since I’ve watched Dara so I can remember deets but it’s a cute and chill show.

Steven Universe is possibly my favourite show, 12 min episodes so really easy to consume. It’s dorky (especially at first) and takes a while to get going. But when it does it has a lot going for it. Action, adventure, humour, all with an upbeat and warm tone. It tackles some pretty deep topics but can be a little on the nose sometimes. The character arcs are satisfying and the whole plot feels very intentional and comes to a close satisfyingly. Who am I kidding it’s definitely my favourite show. If you’ve seen ATLA I think they are quite similar in plot and episode structure, but SU has more adult themes, better humour & character arcs, and a better plot overall. (IMO, don’t yell at me ATLA fans).

Bee and Puppycat has two runs, a YouTube one then a sort of remake on Netflix, it’s confusing and idk which one to recommend, I like the both though. So far it seems quite similar to SU except much less structured. It’s very cutesy and fun but I feel like there’s some ADHD vibes in terms of writing and the main character (I don’t mean this in an entirely bad way, I have ADHD). It just feels a bit scatterbrained at times. That being said I really like it and I’m hoping the creator gets more seasons approved.

Suckerpinch. In summary, he makess weird computer science videos. His videos are quite varied and some of them are incredibly hard to follow, they’re often a real paper he has written in video form. However he has a great sense of humour and the topics he chooses are really weird and funny. His best few videos are 10s.

I just mean we need a publicly version of YT. I am aware the logistics of this are ridiculous, the global nature of yt as you point out is a major hurdle. No country I’m aware of has even managed to nationalize their infrastructure so… ya.

Ok first of all, yes Futurama is dated by its pop culture references, that’s what happens when you make pop culture references. Second, Fry travelling into the future is used to make fun of the 20th century. The show isn’t about the future, it’s about now. The world of the future isn’t supposed to be believable it’s used as a vehicle for pointing out the absurdities of the 20th century.

But most of all it’s just a silly comedy with clever writing. Most Futurama memes are of one off gags and not what made the show truly funny. One of the huge mistakes they made with the newer seasons was constantly referencing old jokes, which is essentially the writers says “hey remember when this show was actually funny?”.

But I’m ranting now. Futurama has been memed to shit and the fan base embarrassingly loves to hype up the show and it’s all its PHD having writers. None of that captures what makes the show great. The first run of the show was just a solid, funny, witty show with a heart of gold.

This clip epitomizes Futurama for me.

I watched both as an adult. ATLA: solid show but overhyped.

Korra was distinctly average and I get the feeling most fans love it because they wish ATLA had more seasons.
