Apologies for the comment I just edited out- I got attacked by Internet goblins. It was meant for another lemming on this post.

I guess doom attained benchmark status as a program, sort of like VLC.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Feeling a little lovey-dovey, how would you react if your crush/partner rubbed their feet on your face?
3·10 hours agoPersonally I think I’d be annoyed. I’d probably be annoyed if anyone rubbed any bodypart on my face except, maybe, their lips if we are kissing. I wouldn’t call that ’ rubbing ’ though, same as giving or receiving oral I wouldn’t consider that ‘rubbing’.
TLDR don’t rub my face, thanks

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it possible to accidentally enter into a romantic relationship with a stranger?
5·1 day agoWithout a doubt, and I presume she’s got to be on par. Haven’t met her. But still. Two weeks to propose is crazy, and accepting is even crazier. Happy for them though!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it possible to accidentally enter into a romantic relationship with a stranger?
10·1 day agoOh. I know I already commented here, but I remembered a friend from DnD who got married to his wife within a month of meeting her. He said he proposed two weeks after first meeting her. They have been married for like 40 years, kids and all. Still together. Boggles my mind whenever I think about it

2·1 day agoStill on Baldurs Gate 3, but this is my second run and the first time as Durge. Made some different choices, recruited different companions, and it’s crazy how different it feels.
I thought I was going to be satisfied with two playthroughs but I’m already planning my third
“huh. More interesting than what I thought”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it possible to accidentally enter into a romantic relationship with a stranger?
9·2 days agoYes? Occasionally people hit it off together at the pub or nightclub and they become long lasting relationships.
No, I can’t say I was familiar with either of those. Closest I could think of would be people eating placentas but not necessarily for youth. Thanks for the reply
Yes I remember this but we used elastic bands instead of strings. Simply because we had them more readily accessible at school. I’ve also seen it done with string or yarn.
And yes usually girls would be the ones playing with that but not too exclusively.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•what is the most violent, reprehensible, sociopathic way to tie your shoes?
11·2 days agoI feel personally attacked. What’s wrong with having the shoes already tied and forcing the feet in? Some shoes are cushioned enough to allow this, it’s a massive timesaver and it doesn’t feel any different from tying the laces every time.
I do use my shoes and socks many times though, I only have two pairs of shoes.
Am I missing some contextual information here?

Funny@sh.itjust.works•In Seville, there's a district called Macarena.
71·3 days agoLots of women are called Macarena. It’s a name. Lots of songs made that feature people names, like Jolene, Alejandro, Mrs Robinson, Roxanne, etc.
But why can’t they taste like bone?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it possible to advertise without it being manipulative?
1·4 days agoYou are asking whether it is possible to persuade people to do something without persuasion. You can’t, unless you just happen to be wanting them to do something they actually need to do.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If you took a box of Kleenex back to the medieval time period, they'd probably think that you're a witch
17·4 days agoI’m more intrigued as to why, out of all things you could pick to bring back to medieval times should you have the opportunity, why would you pick a Kleenex box
This depends on your view of weight. For some people, weight means “we are talking about excess body fat”. For others, weight means “we are talking muscle mass”. In reality, it’s both.
So it could very well be that someone eating more protein and water is building muscle mass faster than they are losing fat. Fat can take a while to burn down in a healthy manner. Also having more fat means you will also retain more water, of which you are drinking more now to begin with.
Of course you will weigh more. But if you keep at it you will eventually weigh less, presuming you didn’t gain muscle like a hulk.

I agree with the sentiment, however, some names in some languages are practically unpronounceable for 99% of native [insert language] speakers, and hearing your name butchered over and over or seeing people struggle over it gets tiring quickly.
I have experienced this myself in English speaking countries. My name is not impossible to pronounce, but stumps half the people when they try to read it the first time. They will also mishear it and call me something similar. Usually if it’s a colleague or someone I’ll be talking to more than once I will let them know if they got it right. It’s not difficult. But if I’m talking to a customer on the phone or ordering a coffee, I go with something easy.
I remember I had this classmate from Mongolia. She had one of those unpronounceable names. She would get very upset that nobody could say it right. There must have been some very specific sounds that only mongolian natives can pick up and reproduce in her name, because I’ve seen absolutely nobody, ever, from any background or nationality, be able to say it right. If you ask me, many did, and I could honestly not tell the difference between her pronunciation and that of most people. But she was outraged. It took her several months to get over it and accept nobody ever would get it right. She didn’t pick a new name, but resigned herself to the butchered version of her name.
So yeah. More power to Cliff if that’s a name they like.
