integer calculations are lossy because they’re integers. There is nothing extra there. Those GPUs have plenty of uses.

MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Space@mander.xyz•A black hole fell into a star – then ate its way out againEnglish45·3 hours agoUtterly wrong. The entire point of a black hole is that it IS an infinity from our perspective. Not even light escapes. They break basically every mathematical model we have … because of infinities.
To a star, it IS infinite, and the fact you do not understand that is … alarming to say the least.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Space@mander.xyz•A black hole fell into a star – then ate its way out againEnglish7·3 hours agoI mean… 7 hours isn’t that long. Especially depending on the size of the star that was consumed. Even the Sun’s light can take thousands of years to actually exit the sun. While sure, gamma rays should have an easier time exiting a star, 7 hours is still a fucking photograph flash to a stellar event…
(also who ever is surprised a black hole would win against ANY star is either playing a fool or fucking braindead)

MotoAsh@piefed.socialBanned from communityto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the problem with banning weapons?English1·12 hours agoIt will always be possible. The punishments need to be very harsh, because white collar crime never “needs” to happen.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Running Windows 10 on a spare drive, only for games. How dangerous is it to not get security updates?English11·13 hours agoWhy was it exposed to the internet with all ports open? Even Linux is getting hacked if you’re fucking rawdogging every packet that shows up…
(yes I know it’s likely from a bunch of BS services only Windows would be dumb enough to enable by default, but the point still stands that any computer that’s exposed to the internet directly needs to be carefully locked down)
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Gaming@beehaw.org•Anyone else disappointed by Steam's current Next Fest?English4·13 hours agoOnly people suffering from Dunning Kruger effect think “AI” is competent.
Interesting how much power morons have.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Gaming@beehaw.org•Anyone else disappointed by Steam's current Next Fest?English2·13 hours agoBut no AI models are ethical because they’ve all been trained on material that they did not have the rights to… Ok ok, I’m sure some niche models have been, but literally none of the major corpo products that are most likely to be used were.
water beds… ouch, bad choice for a fucked up back.
That’s not unusual, depending on a few factors. What really matters is how disruptive it is. I do the same, but as long as it’s just a rollover, I can be back to dream land in a minute or two. … unless it was shitty dreams, then I might be missing the rest of my sleep…
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you seen progressive people be discriminatory either intentionally or unintentionally and if so in what way?English11·2 days agolol a minority with the majority of power…
Do you … do you not understand how systemic racism works…?
MotoAsh@piefed.socialBanned from communityto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the problem with banning weapons?English2·2 days agoPetty crime, sure.
White collar crime is pure greed, though, and that’s 90% of what politicians are doing right now in the US…
There are many motivations for crime, and we need to start punishing the poeple that don’t “have” to do the crime A LOT more harshly, and the people that do “have” to commit the crime far less.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialBanned from communityto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the problem with banning weapons?English2·2 days agoYou’re going to need A LOT more public transit already in place before banning cars would ever be a remotely ‘good’ idea.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto memes@lemmy.world•Thou shalt not alter thy body? I don't remember that oneEnglish391·2 days agoWait, this depends on how someone views it… If they’re a fucking idiot with a child’s understanding, a binary reality means it requires altering someones’ body to transition. That’s the only perspective where it’s “modifying” someones’ body.
If you’re an adult with a developed brain and a basic highschool understanding of genetics, it’s not exactly modifying ones’ body, but merely influencing hormones to reflect how someone feels.
If you’re an adult with a collegiate level of understanding, then people ‘feeling’ like a different gender is the fucking tip of the iceberg, and genetics fucking demonstrates that it’s way more complex.
What is said in the bible, is that reality is more complex than dummies can understand, so leave judging up to God.
MotoAsh@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you seen progressive people be discriminatory either intentionally or unintentionally and if so in what way?English32·2 days agoNo shit. Nowhere did I say you’d convince a bigot with these arguments, especially bigots as committed to the bit as Israelis…
BTW, if you think Palestinians are a majority in relation to Israel and the other nations involved in that conflict, ESPECIALLY in power, then you are only exemplifying your lack of understanding of how the real world works.
It’s DEFINITELY both.
