The poor fan: Watches all of the videos, reads through PDFs of rulebooks, joins communities… but has a very sparse collection and doesn’t have time to play.

This is exactly it. They don’t care about your post or you or anyone really. For them, it just feels good to bring down others.
It’s a little buried in the account settings, but Netflix does allow account sharing for an additional fee (~$7?). I know families that went with this option so they could continue sharing their account with elderly parents, and college aged children.
I imagine that if a group of friends agreed to split the cost of an account + fees, they would end up paying less than having individual accounts.
‘Splendor’ is another gem of a game like Azul. Simple rules with quick turns, and the “poker chips” are substantial.
Monkey paw: your account gets flagged and eventually you go to jail
