because it’s easier to get around with a vpn, but if it’s at the software level it wouldn’t be as easy. They could make it so only France approved browsers could be downloaded.
Reddit is a lot of peoples only form of community, especially if it’s obscure interests. Without it your more or less trapped in your local area.
The transformation is complete we are officially better than reddit.
I think having the defaults set to global instead of local when searching will make it easier for new users to find communities and only show a few lemmy instances that are good to show for new users, the biggest complaint is that lemmy ( and all federated services ) are too complicated trying to find a instance.
Peertube, is a good alt, https://joinpeertube.org/en_US it works of bittorrent to save on bandwidth and federation is used to save storage space.
It would be interesting if we could get people to consider alternatives like peertube as a livestreaming platform.
Thanks for the heads up; I should have used the preview button.
In the comments, though, ReddPlanet’s developer (u/lupeski, aka Tony Lupeski) said “this is a blatant lie,” noting that he had tried multiple times to get in contact with Reddit regarding these changes and had been ignored. Another indie app developer said they had filled out a request for Enterprise API access three times and had received no response. They’re not even giving api access to people who could pay. What lying shits.
A lot of dipping my toes into the water atm. mostly all over the place.
Everyone always wants a technical solution to grow communities. act as though some sort of filter rule or item in the settings menu that will cause more users to post and communities to grow, but always will refuse the most basic thing in communities. Community culture you can always say forums are the public square of the internet. If you don’t have anything to see or do in said square it might as well be a empty abandon parking lot.
