A different perspective - my grandparents grew up speaking French. Then the state passed a law saying only English in schools when they were young children. They would get hit on the hands with rulers for speaking French.
This was of course passed down to my parents and myself. But my mom still bitches about kids where I currently live being in school and unable to speak English because they’re new immigrants.
She doesn’t see the hypocrisy and it’s sad.
My partner is a high school administrator. They said that at the hotel chain ballroom they rented this year for prom they were charged for the number of electrical outlets the DJ used.
I was floored to find out this was a thing. Maybe it’s been around awhile, I don’t know, but they seemed surprised about it so I assumed it was new.

As a fan since the 80’s, and a woman, I’ve seen my fair share of toxicity, but nothing will compare to the level it’s gotten since the release of the sequels. I also hated the sequels, but goddamn the level of hate towards the actors themselves was just awful. There were many valid technical reasons to criticize those movies - diversity wasn’t one of them.
It’s definitely made us all look like idiots regardless if you were a part of the drama or not.
Same and I’ve honestly wondered if it’s had lasting damage for awhile now.

Alligators…not sure if that’s considered “common” or not. We don’t see them on a regular basis depending on your activities. If you fish/kayak a lot, you’ll see them. If you don’t, you generally won’t unless there’s a drought. Then they’ll be in intersections or in your parking lot at work looking for water.

I’m actually trying to slog through the 2nd one right now and yeah, the story isn’t bad but all the internal monologue is slow going for sure.
I was so happy to see him return in TCW. Yeah he got overconfident in ANH, but he was such a great character and I always wanted to know more about him. You don’t get to be the only non-Sith in the top 3 of the Empire as an idiot.
I read his novel but found it just okay.

Oh! Also RevitaLash. It’s more expensive, but I was desperate so I got a few different brands just in case and still alternate. It worked on my eyelashes, too (sadly that’s just bad genes - never had long ones). This morning I just did a little trim with some small scissors, and I’m happy with that. It really was odd to find something that worked as advertised. I wish your wife happy, crazy, out of control eyebrows! :)
I’ve tried some of the eyebrow gel stuff (The Ordinary, o7) that promises to regrow lost brows, and it’s been surprisingly effective. You just have to use it regularly for a few weeks.
I went from my SO commenting on my lack of eyebrows multiple times and my mom asking me if I had an eyebrow pencil…to my mom telling me to do something about my “out of control bushy eyebrows”.
I was pleasantly surprised.

I read it in high school (by choice because of the musical), but I think I was not mature enough to truly grasp many of the themes.
This makes me want to re-read it. I can read French at an okay level, and I’m wondering if I should try…or if I should stick with English again first to get the major points and then branch out.
