  • People who have sex with people just because they enjoy it already exist. It’s not new and it won’t meaningfully increase just because a society becomes currencyless.

Without an economic incentive, sex workers will stop existing entirely. It won’t be work, and they won’t have any need to do it. They won’t be compelled to have sex with you just because you have money now. There will still be people at a bar, club, or whatever who will have sex with someone they like for little or no reason, but again, that’s not new.

  • Woah buddy, you’re at about a 9, we need you down at a 3.

“Dad” doesn’t know anything about web design, but he knows (presumably son) makes them, and he ballparked a number making the entirely common armature mistake of thinking it’s as easy as setting up your facebook page. He’s also not demanding anything here. Nothing about this exchange suggests that “Dad” was going to require that the work be done at the stated price. It seemed like

Maybe before you go burning bridges and obliterating a family relation, consider how much easier it is to tell “Dad’s Buddy” that while Dad was well meaning, he was way off, and Buddy is free to compare with other estimates, but $X is actually a much more reasonable value.

  • So you’ll see some things about how it fits in a car cup holder (Lots of others do too) or how one survived a fire (This is just how insulated bottles like that tend to work) and those are all… good enough… but they’re not why there’s so much hype. The Hype has been carefully engineered. The head of the company is a Marketing guy, and he basically imported Sneaker culture into a new industry. Stanley Cups are released on a limited basis, with partnerships producing only limited supplies. It’s induced scarcity and marketing, people are rushing to get one because if they don’t rush, there won’t be any more, and that makes more people want to rush to get one.

It’s just an insulated cup that is intentionally hard to find sometimes. That’s all.

  • If you just funnel reddit users onto Lemmy, you’re just going to get a shittier version of Reddit. You’ll be selecting for people who are tired of, can’t use, or rejected from reddit, but didn’t make the move on their own. That will result in growth, but at the cost of quality. Specifically reaching out to reddit users sends the message that you just want to be reddit for people who can’t or won’t use reddit anymore.

Expansion should come naturally. As Lemmy grows and improves, new users will naturally gravitate over, but because it wasn’t some sudden influx of reddit users they’ll be less inclined to just bring Reddit’s culture with them.

Yes, you can. I mean, you’re probably still eating mold and it may or may not be “safe” but you can do it. You probably shouldn’t, however. When you see the mold on the surface, the mycelium have already spread much further. Best case scenario you still need to tear off much more than just the visible mold.
