Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL a Canadian from Greece took an American version of an Italian dish and added tropical fruit to it and called it a Hawaiian pizza.English31·1 year agoI get that shit ALL the time. I have 34 wing flavours, a number of them address the sweet n savoury/sour thing I personally detest. I don’t carry the disgusting bulk sweet n sour sugar sauce common to this region and continually get people staring at the 34 flavours and and ask “do you have honey mustard or sweet n sour”? No. I don’t. That’s not what I’m doing here, if I had that, it would be listed. Literally every other place has that, I’m fucking trying to impart some taste to the region no matter how miniscule.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about Muppet, Vulcan and Chicken Claws - different ways to hold chopsticksEnglish7·1 year agoRight hand rule I find the most comfortable, but standard grip allows you to manipulate both chopsticks, as opposed to the one being locked stationary and all the pressure coming from the other one. You know how sometimes the two sticks “twist” around the food? You can prevent that standard grip more easily.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When talking to people who dislike UBI about UBI, they'll often say both that 'people need a purpose in life' and that 'nobody will work if they get free money'.1·1 year agowell yknow, socialism in theory vs the actual logistics when the government gives it a spin.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When talking to people who dislike UBI about UBI, they'll often say both that 'people need a purpose in life' and that 'nobody will work if they get free money'.2·1 year agoEvery proposal for UBI test projects I have seen, sets UBI as a failsafe cutoff, a guaranteed income, not a provided income. This interpretation of how it would work is ridiculously worse for the economy than the idea I thought I was arguing against.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When talking to people who dislike UBI about UBI, they'll often say both that 'people need a purpose in life' and that 'nobody will work if they get free money'.2·1 year agoNo, the Canadian CERB payout was basically structured and set up just like a UBI. You could get it even if you were capable of working, I could have had it too, simply by stating I was uncomfortable keeping working under the circumstances (May have been less true for me personally, I was “essential service”). People on welfare just stayed on welfare.

Watching what was basically a UBI trial run during Covid in Canada and how it, among other things, has really put financial strain on the government and citiizens, has definitely made me opposed. This shit bankrupts nations.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•"If you tell a lie big enough and tell it frequently enough, people will eventually come to believe it". What is an example of this happening today?1·2 years agoThe WEF really is infiltrating governments with their pawns. One of Canada’s national papers is finally acknowledging this, and its the more left one.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a word you've spent a long time not using right?3·2 years agoMan, I’m a voracious reader, my heads full of words I probably put the wrong emphasis on but it ain’t like when i was younger when i would completely and consistently mispronounce words i could spell, and no one would correct me, because they didn’t know either. But this one, I absolutely would have caught this one. Every author, reporter, newscaster, writer I can think of, has apparently spelled or pronounced it wrong and seems it’s in some dictionaries, i just learnt.

If it was say fruit, or beer in a bar, one isn’t counted that close bulk and the other, you could just wait till you sell six and then ring it through as a six pack to go.
