Weve got a bootstraps mentality in the US. Its not worth helping others because 1. No one would help you and 2. Because youre putting yourself at risk by trying to be a good samaritan.

Autistic and ADHD, Im a huge nerd who loves researching whatever interests me that day. My lifetime passions range from AI(actual AI, not LLMs. I was working on AI a decade before LLMs hit he market), programming, inventing, educating, futurism, tech, space, and for the last couple years bioengineering.

6·4 months agoImpressed ot took this long. Every other comment is just describing capitalism working as designed, fucking over the poor to ensure a working class. Maybe do something about the torment nexus if you dont want to live under it?
I agree, but i also feel like theres some poor phrasing on OPs part. Rarely, even if you have problems, is your hobby just “phone”. A phone is a tool, what are you using it for? If your answer is social media, thats your hobby, not “phone”. People absolutely will bond through social media, as difficult as i personally find it, so social media does unfortunately count as a “hobby” i really cant doss beyond it being basic. Gaming on your phone is just as valid a use of your phone, and id have a lot more respect for gamers. Unless theyre playing the match 3/CoC games. Mobile does have good games, but theyre hard to find.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Scam Altman says it’ll take another year before ChatGPT can start a timer. An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.
2·4 months agoIt seems to be a flaw in both the hardware and software side of things. Hardware wise, we have yet to make chips that achieve the processing density of human brain matter. Also, heat generation becomes an issue as you try to scale smaller systems up. Software wise, we know our current neural networks dont scale up well, so we seem to be waiting on some more foundational research for more efficient algorithms. My suspicion is that we’re not really going to get true General Superintelligence until we start manufacturing chips that incorporate living neurons, it just really seems cheaper to use already existing computing systems than to design your own architecture.

2·4 months agoFundamentally yes and no. Original commentor could’ve saved his breath, if people wanted to be educated on AI they have plenty of resources to do so but instead they choose to remain ill informed. The difference is that humans are capable of critical thinking and conceptual connection. We are just as prone to mistakes as AI, we just have a much higher apptitude for mistakes lol. Hence the goal not being to make a perfect AI, its a much more achievable goal of making AI’s that beat us in specific fields. Then to beat us in all fields.

1·5 months agoUnless we are able to escape into another universe, I don’t think it’s possible. There are a lot of human issues that can be fixed, and therefore “improve” the world. I do agree with that.
But beyond that, i think we’re fighting the nature of the universe itself. Our universe in darwinian in nature, to thrive you consume resources from a limited pool of resources. For a lot of people, and all life as we know it, it seems to be a rule that in order to achieve “happiness” you have to reproduce. The very fact that this graph represents every single population of life outside of advanced lifes influence shows that the nature of life is to take. Consume more and more of limited resources until those resources become a limiting factor. Which inherently means you are consuming at the expense of others, even if those others arent even created yet.
The nature of our universe tends towards entropy, you can NEVER fix our universe because it sunply doesnt contain limitless energy. To consume, to exist, is to impose restrictions on all other life. Life is the problem, because life is the only thing capable capable of experiancing the unjust nature of our universe. But our universe creates life.

Yes, thats how responsibility works.
Dunno what its like in the EU, cant speak on that.

From my understanding, a fair amount of the “delay” is caused by the absorption and remission of photons, which takes time. The photon you measure at one end is often not the same photon that was sent. I could be wrong though, if anyone wants to let me know.
