  • Well you’ve got a lot of great recommendtions in general on this post, but while we’re on the topic of war movies:

    • Gettysburg (1993) has some great character studies, the book it’s based on is “The Killer Angels” and also worth reading
    • Zulu (1964) is another product of its times but they did an outstanding job, and it’s a solid depiction of English defensive tactics of the late 1800s

  • Then it goes on to say that AI is just here to help, which I think is supposed to evoke sympathy for something that was unfairly demonized. Something I don’t agree with.

Yeah. I woulda liked it better if the robot in the last panel was standing in the same pose and said: “This interaction is being recorded for training purposes.”

  • Aw yeah, if you already know your rolls and breakfalls, Aikido is a great thing to check out. At lower levels, the “attacks” are basically two-person katas, usually involving escaping from grabs. At upper levels they do have something called randori but even then it’s all very structured. Aikido gets made fun of sometimes for not having a “live” adversary who’s actively trying to beat you. I’ve read there are some dojos that do competitive Aikido, but I think that’s rare.
