I work with a K9 search and rescue team now and then. The team is very good at going deep into the woods looking for missing and/or dead people on scent trails that are sometimes over 24h old.
One of the ladies used a black tactical rig full of pouches. But instead of gun stuff it held gps devices, radios, dog treats, toys, water, collapsible bowls and a dozen other things for her and her dog.
So we geeked out for like five minutes over how useful it was. It’s a Condor Ronin Rig if anyone is curious
Nothing comprehensive but the weapon holster company Trex Arms has a video review of the Einscan-SP that is like 5 years old.
Now I get that’s not super helpful but the interesting part is that they scanned a ton of handguns with combinations of optics, lights etc to make their holsters. They found out how tedious of a process it was so they made the files open source. So you can see the quality you’ll expect when you compare spec sheets to other stuff
Yeah plastic is great for a lot of stuff. Car parts, backpack clips, buttons, trash cans etc. But one time use plastic is EVERYWHERE.
Right? Why do gatorade and pedialyte bottles have to be in crazy over engineered compared to cheap crinkly water bottles? Both one time use which isn’t ideal but thinner bottles would save the company money right?
I wonder if it’s a psychology thing, like having a high quality bottle means people thing whatever is inside is equally higher quality?
I loved you Sandakin!
Reminds me of my time playing Rising Storm 2, having a mosin (long, obselecent bolt action rifle) and taking way more than 8 shots at passing helicopters. I nailed a pilot in the head from pure luck and he commented on how cool/bullshit it was
With gps it’s easy to let navigation skills slip but it’s so important. I try to teach my relatives when opportunities come up.
I always try to look at a map before I go somewhere unfamiliar. Digital, paper doesn’t matter and you don’t really have to memorize anything in particular. Just know what way is north and the general lay of the land to build “shelves in your brain” as someone put it. Then when you see a landmark you’ve either seen it before on the map or know what “shelf” to put it on if that makes sense
“Leadership is simple. Take care of your people and make a decision.”
This is from a USAF Major who was once one of the first dudes in Afghanistan after 9/11, working with green berets when he was enlisted. He said that it’s amazing how easy it can be to lose sight of those two basic things.
You know if people want to eat candy, go to church and spend time with fam in peace, who am I to say no even if I don’t buy into it?
Fun is allowed, with or without us
Scenario based creative problem solving involving abstract ideas and imaginative visualization?
I agree the convenience is a huge game changer. I can vibe with a good audiobook while driving but I mostly just go with a podcast
Just like low tier beer, the colder the better!
Military recruiting has to come to you because you can’t just stroll onto a base and check out the place. Just like how you can’t go into an airport so they do airshows to give you a glimpse of what goes on inside the fence. There are scummy recruiters but also those that are very honest about what it can/can’t provide. Many use it to get travel, training and experience the private sector would never pay an unproven rookie to get. Then in a few years they leave and move on to better things on just like any other job.
And honesty is the best policy. The US military does good and bad, but they sure as hell aren’t the Russians forcing unequipped, untrained kids out to die over a trench.
If you’re about it be about it, just know what you will be signing up for. Don’t let them choose a career for you.
I genuinely think that loan forgiveness would have been pushed through long ago if it wouldn’t ruin recruiting incentives
Or the people setting up the show knew exactly what they were doing but their leadership didn’t catch it
A guarantee of deploying to europe would be great for military retention! Everyone is tired of fighting forever wars in the desert
When I was a garbage man (covid was a weird time) one stop was a business that made those benches, beach chairs, picnic tables etc. Every other week that dumpster was filled to the brim with leftover pieces and “sawdust”. We don’t have a recycling center in the area so guess where that all goes?

Lol nice for real though the military does have fraternization rules to prevent (gestures vaguely) …that
Officers can’t be in romantic relationships with enlisted members unless they were both in the same status when they got married. It can get you in legit legal trouble if discovered, especially if the person involved is in your chain of command aka one of your bosses.
