Board games have a predefined goal. They aren’t designed around collaborative, open-ended storytelling like roleplaying games are.

Risus is quick and simple and can be used for any kind of story and setting you want to build a silly little adventure in. Good for when you want to play something with folks and not have a lot of preparation or hassle.

I’m not sure what the appeal of solo play is, because roleplaying is all about building collaborative stories. If you’re doing it solo, you might as well just write a novel (also very cool). I guess you could use some kind of random tables or something to help you come up with material when you’re stuck with writer’s block, but that’s about all I can see it being useful for.

Anyway, a fun, simple, and free (at least in the sense that you can acquire it without paying money, not in the FOSS-type sense that you are free to modify and distribute it legally yourself) little system is Risus.

Actually yes. If my neighbor openly, to my face, celebrated the state murdering hundreds of thousands of people in war, I would absolutely challenge them on it just like above. And I have, in fact. IMO it can be MUCH simpler. Deleting content should propagate across federation just like adding content does. De-federating should retroactively remove all content that it would normally keep from propagating (possibly leaving “this post/comment deleted” markers so that replies make sense). And losing track of an instance for long enough (e.g. a week, or a month) should be equivalent to de-federating, possibly with the option to resurrect content when and if the instance comes back online.

I believe that would remove a lot of the issues with extra traffic, and possibly a lot of the issues with extra processing. I don’t know enough about the protocol to tell whether it would add requirements for extra data, but I suspect it wouldn’t.

Some have suggested that the lack of Google alumni on the transition team of president-elect Joe Biden, a noted sex pest, might bode well for a crackdown, though the presence of veterans from other tech giants like Amazon and Uber suggests otherwise

The video narrative is wrong about logic gates. While he claims this magical type of gate that exists in the game and changes the output to match the input only if the “state” input is on doesn’t exist in the real world and works entirely different from real electronics, it’s literally just a gated D latch.

Cool project, though, even if the video is a bit counter-educational.

Also remember this is useless without complementary security measures:

1. Encrypt the storage on any device where these are installed (including your desktop/laptop drives if you install e.g. the desktop version of Signal).
2. Lock your devices with pin or password, and store that pin/password only in your head (there’s no such thing as telepathy at this point in time so they can’t physically force it out of you, unlike biometric data like your fingerprints).

If you are relying on “Legally they’re not allowed to…” instead of, “they simply can’t, even if they try,” then you’re not doing it right.
