If they were to have what we have, they would be able to detect (infer) atmospheric composition filled with the byproducts of industrialization. It’s not ideal, but IMO we’re halfway there. You need to make a decision about how much bullshit you’re willing to tolerate before moving forward, but I’d recommend you talk it over with her as she might have some unkind words for them, and it would probably go more smoothly if she’s the one who puts them in their place.

I might have been more inclined to recommend this before learning that the teams of Psychonauts who’ve been trying to map the DMT realm have described the Machine Elves as being sort of like adults reacting to a toddler that wanders into a University symposium on quantum physics - sort of inherently bemused by the intrusion, but also less than helpful (mocking) in accommodating the newcomer’s understanding of the undertakings or general nature of the situation.

I hopped onto the Reddit train late in the game, partially because I was busy elsewhere, but also because of the kind of bullshit that I’d heard about which wound up being pretty accurate.
