And if one member of that household loses their job, that means the entire household is fucked, at least probably.

cats@lemmy.world•The face of someone sleeping after went missing for 5 months then returned home like nothing happenedEnglish
20·12 hours agoSame, one of our cats went missing one Sunday night, showed up the following Thursday…that was bad enough.
Funny/sweet bit though…the other cats gathered by the front door, which prompted my partner to open it, and there he was.
Before I met my partner, one of her cats nicked bacon from her neighbours frying pan on several occasions.

6·6 days agoI’d have thought a snowman would do a fair bit of damage to a car anyway.

2·14 days agoRobert Stamford Tuck called it “one bloody long Monday morning”.
Its meant to be cold next week, too.
People seemed a lot better off in the 90s, music, TV, and culture was better and more varied. Now there isn’t the same level of investment.
Further to that everyone seems to have “the fear” over numerous things.
Saying that though, we have had a lot of progress over rights and acceptance, particularly surrounding racism and the LGBTQ+ community.

7·3 months agoFunny how they suddenly care about how taxes are spent.
I’ve set my screen so everything is grey/black and white.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do to help a terminally online person?English
1·4 months agoThats what Im asking for when I say id like more information…like why are they unhappy?
With that said, i dont want OP to answer me, Im just looking to answer his question.
Also, I think we are all unhappy in this capitalist shithole, the working class at any rate.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do to help a terminally online person?English
31·4 months agoIm not judging, thats why Id like more info. If these people are happy with their situation, leave them to it, some people are happy with in their comfort zone.
If theyre unhappy, thats a totally different matter. For instance do they want something better but lack the confidence, skills, or connections?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Phrases like “I am here” or “Are you here yet?” are used today more than in the past because of cellphones.English
7·4 months agoIll be honest i cant remember when texting became a thing.
I dont think it was a thing in 2000.
I stand corrected. My first phone was my mums old phone. It had the feature, but they wouldnt send, this was 2000 or 2001.

7·4 months agoEven just over 25 years ago youd have been like “What are you gonna do, hand me a sheet of paper with some text on? Why dont you just tell me?”
Although, when I was in school we’d pass each other sheets of paper with extended conversations on. I found an old homework diary with loads of messages in once, years after school.
