Can you tell me a little bit more about how Soapbox FE and Soapbox BE differ? I’m out of the loop on that one.

Just want to point out that I use Mangane, which is a fork of Soapbox, on my Akkoma server—and it absolutely connects to Lemmy.
From what I understand, Soapbox is just a front-end. The backend is Pleroma/Akkoma.
And by the way, one of the great aspects of the *oma services is that the frontends can be swapped out.

1·9 months agoClose, but ChatGPT doesn’t use Roman numerals for lists. You clearly just copied my writing and asked it write similarly. Anyone can do this with any author—I can get ChatGPT to sound like Shakespeare and Hemingway as well. And it’s wild how, despite all this, ChatGPT still wasn’t able to copy my imagination or detail.
Nevertheless, you’ve forgotten the most important rule of this community: Be civil. You are not the style police, and this thread isn’t about how I love to use em-dashes.
However, since I am a mod and enforce community standards here, I am now banning you from this community.

1·9 months agoCool—you’ve keyed in on my particular style of writing. I love em-dashes—a good all-purpose piece of punctuation that establishes rhythm of speech.
I’m feeling charitable today. Have another em-dash—

movies@piefed.social•Renfield (2023) was a box office corpse—$65M budget, $26M gross—yet it’s a surprisingly fun splatter-comedy that deserved better.English

9·9 months agoGreat question. For one thing, it’s built to be a general Piefed video game community. There’s another one on piefed.social but it’s way more meme heavy and into “gamer culture” instead of just video games.
As for why Piefed and not Lemmy, it’s because Piefed communities are portable. That is, if the admin proves to be awful or a server threatens to shut down, you can just move the community elsewhere.
Also, audience. I crosspost from @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org, an account that has 14.5K followers. So lots of comments come from Mastodon and Akkoma.
Finally, content. Less outrage culture. More games. Many which you’re likely to have never played before.

10·1 year agoNot an issue with the community itself, I just have a hard time federating to lemm.ee from atomicpoet.org. Whenever I tag !movies@lemm.ee, my reviews don’t reach there. Piefed is much better when it comes to crossposting from Akkoma.

7·1 year agoYou can see Lemmy posts from Friendica. For example:
https://friendica.world/display/e7311011-53fd1027bdcd0da2-858c998f
You can also see Friendica groups from Lemmy.
Got it. So it’s less confusing to users who don’t know what an FE or BE are, but it’s more confusing for new admins who do.
“Instead of running Soapbox on Soapbox, I’ll run Fedibird on Soapbox. Scratch that. I’ll run vanilla Pleroma with Soapbox instead of Soapbox.”
