  • Man I use IntelliJ for:

    • python
    • Jupyter notebooks
    • node, typescript
    • html
    • YAML/TOML
    • sql
    • testing
    • ReST
    • Docker
    • bash
    • cloud formation
    • terraform
    • lua
    • groovy, kotlin, and also java
    • maven, gradle, spock
    • linting, code formatting, dependency management, db connectors & browsing, live templates, refactoring, code analysis, fantastic git operations, local history, testing, etc

Support for most of this stuff is just built in, and a few plugs for the rest. In-line embedded sql execution, best git merge tools, everything has customizable key commands… it goes on and on. The amount of config and plugs this requires in other tools is insane.

  • 90% of my career as a software engineer and cloud architect over the last 15 years has been figuring it out myself. It’s great when there is a senior super coder with free time to mentor you, but that was literally never the case for me, I’ve been the most senior on every project I’ve ever worked.

It means I had to learn a lot of things the hard way, but I also think it made me better at what I do. I now mentor jr devs to try and save them some pain, but what you’re seeing, especially in a small company where people wear a lot of hats is pretty normal.

Oh man, probably over 100. I’m not into trans/gay/etc lifestyle so while I have no hate for our friends there, just not relevant to me. I block all the random celeb hot pix, any tankie shit, most of the 4chan-ish subs, anything right wing, any of the subs starting with “okbuddy_”, and some of the bigger non-English subs as I just cant read the content. I haven’t actually run into too much that was objectionable, just not relevant for the most part.

Edit: also furries and muscle women- who knew they were so popular!
