I know enough about technology and big tech companies to be completely unwilling to believe that any device claiming to be “off” or even just to have some feature “off” can be trusted not to be collecting data anyway, at least in certain situations. They have completely and utterly destroyed that trust, and are at this very moment still dancing gleefully on its corpse. It doesn’t really make any sense for them to act surprised when we refuse to believe a company like Meta will take anyone’s privacy seriously.

Maybe it’s an opportunity to upgrade to something that’s not an Ender :) The bed leveling/z-offset issues on them are a nightmare. I did the same to mine. I lowkey think that’s why people recommend them as a first printer, because they know you’re inevitably going to destroy the bed and by that time you’ll have decided whether it’s worth continuing in the hobby with a better printer or whether you hate it completely by that point.

Hooray! Fewer people on twitter is a good thing for all of humanity. I hope all of them get locked out of their accounts for inauthentic behavior, and they keep instituting even more extreme hurdles for people to come back until eventually nobody does. Kill the platforms. Kill them with fire.

Yeah it’s really upsetting. Some of the most genuinely intelligent and insightful people I know have talked exactly like that (many still do), and I know they’re people because a) I’ve met some of them, and b) they were doing this before generative AI was a thing. Generative AI stole the natural styles and voices of our best and brightest and is wearing them like a fucking Edgar suit. It’s sick.

I don’t think you got it wrong, for what it’s worth. Don’t believe the clankers that insist they’re human, they’re prompted to do that, and they’re designed to be convincing. Truth is unfortunately subjective nowadays, and trust is in short supply. This certainly has a lot of red flags that make think it might be a low effort corporate astroturfing attempt (13 hour old account with Razer in the name that has never posted anything else) even without the highly suspect AI writing.

It’s not really a foundational political position as much as it’s a simplistic coping strategy at this point. The firehose of awful is difficult to endure.

I believe you, and I feel for you. The saddest part about AI is how it has tainted all high-effort, carefully organized work to the point that it makes it hard to distinguish between the most trustworthy content and the least trustworthy. We need better tools for information provenance. Like I said, the first thing I did was look into your backgrounds to try to understand “is this some AI slop bot or a real person with a real brain” and everything I looked at suggested it being legit and that’s why I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. But that doubt is everywhere nowadays. It’s rough out there.

The formatting, style, cadence and tone feel very AI to me. The authors seem like real people with real history and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, the topic and status summarization is genuinely interesting whether it’s AI or not, but it’s hard not to feel a bit sus reading it.

It’s supposed to be progressive in the sense that it (sort of) supports people better than is typical, but it’s also a nanny state where the supports and protections they offer are more about taking your freedom away than actual support and genuine progress. And vice versa, the conservative libertarian ideologies that are available on the other side of the ballot, emphasize personal freedoms but they are actually more about the rich getting richer while using personal freedoms as window dressing to distract you from the fact that they are making everyone else so much poorer that you won’t have the money to access those freedoms anyway.

Neither side is genuinely progressive. They just wear their freedom and generosity like superhero capes and then use them like a matador does to distract the charging bull of public opinion and make you blame the cape for it while they poke even more sharp things into your sides.

It can’t? Why not? Lots of other cities do. Granted, Athens could probably do it differently, or better, and that’s their call. If they want less tourism, that’s certainly their right to decide. But tourism is also pretty damn lucrative, and for a country like Greece that last I heard was still pretty cash-strapped, cracking down on tourism seems like an odd choice.

Stories like this always feel like misdirection efforts to deflect blame from the actually responsible devices and organizations. The amount of normalization of openly-broadcasting-at-all-times cellphones in our society can’t really be explained with anything less than an overwhelming multi-level propaganda campaign.

Who needs spies anymore when you can just convince everyone, even military personnel, to carry around an always-on camera and microphone with onboard power and various long-range wireless options (and get them to willingly keep it continuously charged for you!)
