  • Yeah fam u.u i feel ya…

    Hard times–and it’s not even just reddit.

    The things we once took for granted are now associated with new hardship because profit for Party A requires suffering for Party B.

    Every new loss I encounter, I no longer have the energy to get upset. I just resign myself. “Oh well. That figures. Just gotta accept it and adjust.”

    It’s weird how I’m less emotionally volatile and vulnerable than I had ever been in prior stages of my life despite the world having become distinctly worse since then. But … getting upset takes energy; i have no energy to spare.

  • … Depends on your definition of “okay”.

    A maximally “good person” would not consider it OK to criticize someone’s religion, but they may criticize harmful activities that individuals perform, even if such individuals use their religion as an excuse to do harmful things–because it is not about religion, but rather about choices and actions.

    However, I am admittedly not a maximally good person, no matter how much of a cinnamon roll I do wish I could be… And I draw the line a little further into the gray area, in that the thing that gives me pause is not “it’s a religion” but rather “participation in these activities–” this religion in particular “–strongly correlates with specific marginalized demographics.”

    There is a very strong likelihood that dissing islam will also, with proverbial ‘splash damage’, hit people who are also going through a lot of awful shit with government leadership and legislation that somehow manages to STILL be more cruel and more corrupt than a given “global north” or “western” nation state.

    So … It’s just awareness of context.

    Also there is a chilling effect from all the highly publicized incidents where journalists are murdered for saying something that some individuals whom are Muslim do not agree with.

    (although that does not make them look any worse than when israel murders journalists lately…)

    Generally speaking, the normative population of christians (using the broadest possible definition in Literally Anyone Who Prays To Jesus) does not, statistically, suffer nearly as much oppression as muslims.

    So … due to EXTERNALITIES, mocking islam itself, specifically, feels too much like ‘punching down’ for my liking. It is my hypothesis that there are other people hesitating to talk shit for the same or at least similar reasons. Meanwhile, mocking christianity is quite a bit less like ‘punching down’ because the most corrupt, powerful, dastardly sacks of shit on the planet dress themselves up as christians.

    …That said, I do not think anyone has a leg to stand on as far as trying to dictate at other people that they are “allowed” to mock some religions but not others. I for one believe this is a personal choice that one must make for oneself. If you wish it did not happen, the extent of one’s individual influence is to choose not to oneself.

  • oh, my friend, i’m sad to say that this planet has been as fucked as a toddler at a republican invite-only soiree for a long time already u.u

    Our fate was sealed since the 1960s.

    The timeline branch where we avoided this was the one where Nixon was executed for treason. We are, unfortunately, obviously in one of the variations of the world where that did not happen.

    (edit: i know he was only sworn in by 1969 and resigned in 1974 but the prerequisites for dragging his sick bastard carcass to justice were supposed to have been laid out in JFK’s second term. … Which also didn’t happen in the timeline where we have had the misfortune to find ourselves)

  • while i love how pretty clothes are when they’re marketed to women, i’m actually more often disappointed by, like, how they oftentimes (not every time but too many times) seem flimsier, and cost more, and are literally less functional and practical. like, what the heck is WRONG with them going out of their way to make pants that only have the appearance of pockets but no ACTUAL POCKETS?! i like pockets ;~; i can keep my stuff in them…

    so sometimes i wonder if it’d just be better if people could be somehow convinced to stop enabling such pointlessly gendered design that puts an entire dang half of the whole population at a disadvantage. i think male-identified individuals should have pretty clothes too and it’s sad that there’s a social stigma about it

  • Ah, you think dorkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dork. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see mainstream until I was already … obsessively hyperfixated on a niche set of personal interests that normally cause neurotypical people’s eyes to glaze over as they completely shut down from infodump saturation ^-^;

    also i love that your name, Zorque, seems to rhyme with ‘dork’ when i sound it out in my head ;3

    i honestly genuinely think that’s cool as heck!

  • this is why i never wear socks that stop at the heel or the ankle. i can’t stand the feeling of the edge riding down >.<

    there was a little while where i had to wear compression stockings for a health-related reason, but i’ve come to really like how they feel being all the way up to my knee …

    and now i’m kinda interested in finding some pairs of thigh-highs too~ ^^;

  • Toxic positivity. I’m not a fan of “your opinion doesn’t count unless you agree with me” and this is just a social media platform saying the same thing. But I’m grateful for the Return YouTube Dislike browser plug-in/add-on so that you can have some point of reference among perspectives outside one’s own. If a video has 300 likes, you might think it’s a fine video and you’ll watch it thinking “wow 300 people endorsed this”. If a video has 300 likes and 500 dislikes, though, you at least KNOW “oh that’s at least one red flag. I shall invest more effort than usual into being skeptical and mindful, and more effort into thinking critically as well, as I watch this.”

    If i see a ton of dislikes on a video whose topic is one of the new reich’s designated scapegoats, the dislike count may in fact be a factor that INCREASES my favorability toward it, because chuds brigading something means it upsets them.

  • depends on the instance.

    i really miss lemm.ee… it was just, y’know, nice. a nice place. with nice people. friendly, cheerful, open, welcoming.

    then you have some instances that are rather uh … combative >.> i shan’t name names lest i accidentally summon their unwanted attention.

    i’m new to my current instance and it’s a very cozy place so far. i worry i might be too edgy for the time being, but i’m hoping to sand those edges down, because goodness knows this cursed decade’s roughness has left me rough too. the Screaming Twenties have no brakes…

  • My ambition in my 40s

    Don’t. Draw. Attention.
    Just keep my head down, quietly complete the minimum acceptable requirements, only submit them when their deadlines are imminent. Aim for the equivalent of a “B” on my performance reviews.
    Dress plainly, don’t talk about hobbies or personal life, don’t reflect or amplify drama, never volunteer my opinion.
