It’s a fun low-ish budget romp. It’s not art house, but it’s a fun enough take on the 'ole “small and plucky – but mostly doomed – group of people fighting alien menace” trope. The sequels are… not great.

Yeeeaaah you’re supposed to regularly test that you can actually restore your backups, because boy do a lot of companies find out they can’t only after shit goes sideways and to their horror they then realize that they can’t restore some system’s backups because reasons.

Not sure I’ve worked in a company that did that, and frankly even when I was CTO in a startup we didn’t have automated backup tests – mostly because it was still early days and I just manually tested restoring our in-house service when a change was made that would warrant it. N + 1 other things to do besides automating backup tests so I deemed that Good Enough™.

I definitely understand what you mean about how terrifying the thought of losing your memory and cognitive function is. Alzheimer’s runs in my family; my dad’s pretty much on his last legs because of it, and I can’t watch anything that has a character with Alz or something similar, it just hits way too close. Knowing that I’ll probably get it too just makes it even more painful

Yeah there is no way I don’t have a bit of a cry if I watch “Sunday”. Poor Rodney; even though it’s not his fault, I personally couldn’t imagine not feeling guilt in a similar situation. And Elizabeth’s speech was so nice.

Such a good episode though. I’m a sucker for entertainment that makes me feel “difficult” emotions too, although there’s a few movies – like Dancer in the Dark – which I think are fantastic, but which I probably won’t watch more than once.

I can highly recomment Dancer in the Dark though if anybody hasn’t seen it and is the sort of person who enjoys the emotional equivalent of listening to Björk while your puppy is murdered and you’re being repeatedly kicked in the head
