The anti-AI knee-jerk reactions can be extreme, I agree, but at the same time one of important features of Mastodon is that your feed is nor controlled by an algorithm in any way.

So when a company comes, takes those posts and screws with them to create an algorithm to show them, I understand people getting angry - at least some of them joined to be free of that exact thing…

The wildest part is that he’s surprised that Mastodon peeps would react negatively to their posts being scrapped without consent or even notification and fed into an AI model. Like, are you for real dude? Have you spent more than 4 seconds on Mastodon and noticed their (our?) general attitude towards AI? Come the hell on…

This price hike is absurd - fortunately the only game I play online (Warframe) is implementing cross-save soon, so I’ll be able to move away from Playstation and stop renewing Plus - 80 dollars for online pay and cloud saves is robbery, how greedy can you get?!

Just a browser for now - set up Firefox Beta on my phone and put the icon where my reddit app used to be. I have Lemmy, Kbin, Squabbles and Tildes bookmarked here and constantly open in tabs, so that it’s separate from my regular browsing and I can just switch to ut similarly to opening RIF i the past.

Might switch to apps when they mature a bit more, but for now I’m actually enjoying the browser experience.

It’s simple - you’re paying for 2 or 4 screens, but you could be paying for 2 or 4 screens AND multiple accounts! That would give them more of your money, so it’s their preferred option.

My local subreddit, but it will sadly never happen, because the overwhelming majority of users there simply don’t care about whatever spez or reddit is doing - they didn’t even do the 48h blackout, just complete apathy. You might be thinking of anchoring. Some restaurants have a couple of outrageously expensive wines on top of the menu for that reason - everything else looks cheaper in comparison, since the first thing you saw is “anchored” in your mind and used as a point of reference.

When the ONLY motive of doing (or not doing) something is profit, things go to sit sooner or later. The example I often use is that we actually have enough food in the planet to feed everyone. We just throw a large portion of it away or destroy it, because in so many cases food is not made/grown to feed people, but to generate profits… Sad reality of late stage capitalism.
