I love when people conflate rights and ethics. I agree with you that no one has a right to be listed on Fedi Garden. And I still think it’s not nice to pressure admins into taking choice away from users.

And I don’t think it’s nice to take the choice away from users. I can block threads all on my own – I don’t need a nanny who doesn’t even cite their sources.
Strong names are great, but (sometimes) mentioning the type of variable in the name is redundant.

I attended a conference where a former 20th Century-Fox executive talked about the way she meddled in the trailer process with technology. It’s all about numbers and metrics – if enough people, in the right demographics, didn’t watch the whole trailer on YouTube, they’d cut the next trailer to cater to that group. Even if it wasn’t a great representation of the movie; her bonus depended on people watching the trailer.
I’ll preface this by saying I’m a huge supporter of eliminating discrimination in the workplace and have been part of many efforts to do so. I’m sure the plaintiff and law firm here are suing for all the wrong reasons.
That being said, if there are literal quotas, that’s just a corporation doing the bare minimum to look good. Implementing quotas doesn’t eliminate bias in the hiring, promotion, and firing process.
I know it’s not this easy in all positions, but we’ve already seen that “blind” auditions in orchestras increased the likelihood of women being hired by 11-30%. And there’s no doubt those women were more talented and qualified – they were only judged on their performance. That’s a much better outcome than requiring 30% more women and the biased hiring panel picking women based on looks, age, likelihood to take parental leave, etc.
TL;DR: Quotas are a lazy way to try and fix bias in the hiring process. Work to actually prevent and eliminate the bias.
PETA has ties to a terrorist organization, has previously kidnapped and euthanized pets, advocates for the extinction of domesticated animals, and has at least one executive who used animal-derived insulin despite their campaigns against the very same.
I see no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt in any of their publicity stunts. Wake me up when a legitimate organization working for animal welfare has concerns.

I don’t understand the writing. The main two characters are garbage people and there’s no character exploration to explain it. And if the answer to the mystery isn’t supernatural, there’s two explanations that have been telegraphed from miles away. But yeah, its not the worst thing ever made.
Yeah. I worked for a SaaS company that had two rounds of layoffs because they hired C-suite executives who were better at talking than building software or running product teams.

The “Sync Contacts” setting is weird. You can toggle it on, but it doesn’t gain or ask for the OS permissions on Android. There’s a brief message saying you have to give it the permission. No idea why they didn’t just use the built in SDK to ask for the permission.
The go community is strongly opinionated in unique ways. For example, using libraries is generally frowned upon. You either use something included in the language itself (standard library) or copy/paste the code you wrote in another project. There’s also advocacy for shorter variable names which generally seems counter to the normal “write descriptive variable name” mantra.
All in all, I hope the ideas / opinions came from a good place and then some people took them as black & white rules. But they also come off as one or two people’s pet peeves who got to build a language around them.

These people don’t even read their own literature. The Catholic church’s ban on alchemy is about falsely claiming something is a valuable metal in order to pay for debts. It has nothing to do with the occult – the ban was because it’s a sin to lie / cheat / steal. A saint is even on record saying that alchemical gold is ok if the end if product is real gold.
With that context, of course God doesn’t give a shit if you use SQLAlchemy as long as you aren’t using it to defraud people. If you were defrauding people, it wouldn’t matter what tool you used.
