Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What fediverse software should I host?English
7·1 year agoThis is probably the least painful way to get a few fediverse apps installed. There are many Mastodon type apps, Pixelfed, Lemmy and maybe more.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are ways to end a web surfing addiction?English
2·1 year agoThis works. If OP has a SIM card (vs esim) then it’s easy to move it back and forth between phones as the problem ebbs and flows. I have a $60 “feature” phone (the non-slang name for them) that sits in a drawer and comes out a few times a year to quell the noise.

That is a good book.
Re: downvoting; I think it’s just knee jerk reaction to any suggestion Facebook can do anything good. I have the same reaction but, like you, there’s a specific group I belong to that doesn’t exist elsewhere and it’s one of the few groups that isn’t toxic or hysterical.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any good alternative Facebook mobile clients out there?English
1·1 year agoSome (all?) of the apps just wrap the FB website so they can’t really tell what’s happening to block it or could do so without hitting a bunch of innocents.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the best e-mail providers out there?English
5·1 year agoAddling a vote for Fastmail. It’s great, priced right, privacy centric, has wicked 1Passwold integration (including disposable email addresses) and nerdy features for those who want them.
Personally I use Hey but that’s because imma snob.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any recommendations to my blocklist?English
7·1 year agoDo you have to block communities? I thought you could just not join them to avoid their content.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the craziest cartoon(s) you saw whilst a kid?English
3·1 year agoIt’s a very generational question. Like, many of the cartoons I watched as a kid would definitely be considered crazy today (and racist, misogynistic, murderous, etc.) but at the time were typical.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If earth encountered a snobby alien race that looked down on us for being barbarians, and appreciated only fine art, would the entire planet immediately start pretending they are sophisticated?English
1·1 year agoIn my experience, the “entire planet” isn’t capable of uniting on anything.
45 minutes? How many M&Ms were there? 🤨

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•are there any Lemmy clients in Android that allow for filtering out posts based on key words?English
3·1 year agoI use Thunder on iOS and it says it’s available for Android too. It has filters and I have them set to exclude just about any word I can think of that has to do with US politics. I haven’t seen a post about that yet so I assume it’s working.

It might be better to start over?
