Isn’t the biggest risk that you can’t shift your weight enough in emergency braking? The stopping distance must be horrible.

Yeah but how many users are actually that brave/stupid? 100kph feels FAST on a motorbike, I can’t imagine how it feels on one of these 😬
Am actually really interested in the safety stats. Would guess on those things you aren’t doing more than 40, so probably not too bad for rider vs e.g. motorbikes where the temptation is to crazy speeds. And with it being smaller/lighter than a car it’s clearly safer for pedestrians and other vehicles.
I’ve seen that said, yet there are no stills from said movie, just this one photo. No comment anywhere from the people behind the movie, who would surely love the viral advertising.
My love life involves a lot of choking the chicken too.

11·3 months agoThiiis. The insiders need to laud the goals of protesters and the protesters need to ease off on the “complicit” insiders a bit. We are on the same team, and the combination of approaches is more powerful. Disagreeing on methods is fine, you pull, we push, momentum baby.
There are ways to resist short of burning shit down. The idea that this is a dichotomy is exactly the “yet you participate in society, interesting” meme.
What fucks with me is that you can’t control all the variables. School and peers can outweigh the ideas you try to put forward. I feel like I’m working on deprogramming more than I actually have a chance to teach already and my kids are only small.

2·4 months ago“undetectable failure rate”. Not at all, we can detect failures by critically reading the output, just as we would with, say, a newspaper article. I think part of the danger is that we might start to think of an LLM as a reasoning calculator, rather than treating it like a person: biased, conflicted, malicious, whatever.

2·11 months agoYeah, I the flaws define the character, more even than the relationship with Watson in my eyes. I quite enjoyed Johnny Lee miller in “elementary” the same way for actually being shown struggling.
Superhero Downey Jr type holmes’ are fine in their own way but sort of misses the point.

3·1 year agoPerfect example! Quarks taking their name from finnegans wake! Sure, science is more than poetry, but the poetry of it is pretty important to scientific culture (and therefore to making progress).

14·1 year agoSorry to disappoint you. Most scientists love poetry. People that can express the principles of our fields beautifully are our heroes. Watch talks by eminent scientists: they are more often than not exceptional communicators as well as thinkers.

8·1 year agoIt’s models all the way down. We don’t have access to some ultimate truth. Rather as you delve deeper the model is able to predict more accurately esoteric corners of reality, and/or more parsimoniously tie together the empirical facts we know.
“what really happens” is for dogmatists. If your model has no blind spots you probably haven’t been imaginative enough.

5·1 year agoExactly, you think it’s all personal responsibility. That the economics of culture have no impact (or are desirable?). Totally ignoring that access to culture is not deliberate. There are massive network effects and constant, unavoidable advertising. Your very tastes are shaped by society around you.
And lol at lemmy as an example. Social media and content aggregation is even more homogeneous than film/print/music/food. The fact that tiny countercultures exist doesn’t disprove that.

“diverse” so long as you like the ubiquitous: hamburgers, Taylor swift, marvel movies. Increasing American cultural dominance is the opposite of diversity.

Pro tip. If you turn the volume down and hold it to your ear you can still listen to whatever without anyone else hearing. Like we used to be able to hear the other end of the line without others hearing in the old days when we used phones to phone people.
