After Windows Recall was announced, I’ve seen more people talking about switching to Linux than ever before.
I’ve been the Linux zealot in my friend group for years, and none of them have switched (they’ve dabbled on old laptops but never daily drove).
With Recall, a coworker I never would have expected reached out to me because he knows I’m a “Linux guy” and he was switching to Linux over it.
He’s still daily driving pop_OS a month later.
There’s also plenty of people that do use adblock today, and would just put up with ads if it stopped working.
So the actual number of people that would simply stop using YouTube altogether is lower than the number of people that use adblock today.
And from YouTube’s perspective, those people aren’t contributing revenue anyways, and all they get is a little bit of usage data. Easy trade.

They were pretty clearly remarking on the “gets better after 3 hours” comment.
The problem is, not voting is as far as they’ll actually go towards “not participating in that system”. They still want all the benefits that they get from the system.
So it becomes less of a politically motivated action and more of just a tantrum.
Weird, I use it all the time. Even starting to use it for work to save a ton of time on simple, time-consuming work.
Agreed, there’s a degree of introspection here that most “dumb” people don’t have.
Microblogging versus content aggregation with comments. Two different things that are technically similar enough to share a protocol.
On Masto, it’s more about being a person saying something into the ether. Lemmy is more about adding content to communities, subscribing to the ones you like, and then talking about it there.

There’s no real evidence that Meta was intentionally hiding anything, nor is Pixelfed even close to resembling a threat to Instagram.
So a few comments were hidden, no one seems to be able to reproduce it, and it appears to just be a glitch.

Price, it was the cheapest ultra wide oled I was able to find.

I have plenty of non-critical Linux ISOs that I don’t back up (because that’d be like 12 TB).
But I’d still be pissed if I accidentally wiped them.
But even still, what’s a realistic usecase that would that involve needing a blank, unmodified file in that instance?
I’m betting that’s why none ever materialized. Most tools that can manipulate a file, can also create that file first, so there’s just never been a usecase.
Right-clicking the desktop to create a new txt file in Windows feels so natural, but I can’t really think of any time you’d want to create a new file and do nothing with it in a CLI.
Is there a command that’s actually just for creating a new file?
