What’s he holding in his hand? What’s he doing? I’m so confused xD

Many many things, but one I’ve not seen touched on much is how LONG the lead up is.

Here, quite often they announce an election and then a few weeks later we have the election.

It doesn’t really make any sense to drag it out, that’s more than enough time to learn about the candidates, the current state of the various parties and their manifestos, and time for debates and discussions and such before polling day.

The idea that an election run up can go on for months and months and months feels silly/wasteful.

The difference I suspect is in the ease of which we have access to local polling stations within walking distance of our homes, and how short the queues are, if there are queues at all.

In the US these problems can be magnified, especially if everybody is trying to pile in to the stations (or just reach them) within the one hour they have before their 12 hour shift, etc.

I say mould because I’m English and that’s just how it’s spelled here (we also pronounce it with a U, pronouncing it without the U as mold would be…strange).

Not an overly exciting response I know, but there you go :P

I looked up what that is,

It moves hot water from your water heater through your pipes and back again, keeping the water in the pipes hot and ready for use

While that sounds great from an end point perspective - my water would be hot straight from the tap - this would necessitate keeping the water in the pipes hot 24/7 so that it’d be ready at a moments notice at any time.

That would be SOOO much more expensive! Just imagine! So much energy/money lost keeping some pipes hot for the few times a day you need to use the hot tap.

Sounds like a great system for places like a hospital where on demand, correctly heated water throughout the building complex is a must, but those places have £££ to burn.

I do agree this is a problem though, I’ve sometimes wondered if there’s an instant electric heating system one can install under the sink (I know these exist), but rather than only heating water that way (which would use electricity and be WAY more expensive than the gas boiler), if it heated the water only when needed - and when it detects the incoming water is hot (as the boiler’s caught up) it can stop heating the water itself, you know?

A little initial heat burst for the first 15 seconds basically until the boiler catches up, that’d be great and not too big of an additional cost to run :-D

After your turn the water off in the shower but before you get out, use your hands to wipe off any standing water on your body. Maybe even give your legs a bit of a shake. This way, you won’t drip nearly as much when you get out, keeping the floor and your towel drier.

Are there people that don’t do this? Wouldn’t they absolutely soak their bathroom floor?

Heck, I do this and then use a small towel to get the rest of the initial water off while I’m stood in the shower, that way when I step out I’m no longer dripping wet, and my big main towel can do the rest of the work without needing to get soaked itself.

It can just be thrown on the bed to dry, no need to unfold it, and the smaller very wet towel is easier to find somewhere to hang up.

Anyway that’s my system, a little addition to your tip :-)

It’s good to have a positive outlook, but it’s also important to be realistic, and know when to move your energies elsewhere, I think.

I could set my mind to becoming a good orchestral composer, but all I’d be doing is wasting years of my life and a lot of money and effort, because I know I’m not at all creative in that way. My creative strengths lie elsewhere.

I could stick with it, and become at best a very derivative boring composer, but I wouldn’t reach my dream or being a good one.

And I’d miss out on other dreams I could have been following that were more realistic and would bring me more happiness in the end, you know?

But yeah, you also have to weigh that against pushing yourself past your limits, because maybe you’ll be great at something you wouldn’t have expected!

I think in the end as with most things in life, it’s about finding a balance between idealism and realism that works best for you :-)

I don’t know why people are downvoting you on your anti magic bean stance, historically they’ve not been a good gamble with ones money :P

But this time will be different, I get a good feeling from this guy! Not only is he not out to scam me by giving me dud magic beans, but he’s given me a bunch of extra packets that I can sell to my friends too, and all he asks is a tiny portion of the profits.

So now I’m gonna have a magic bean stalk and some semi passive income, all from hosting just one Bean party a month at my place!

You can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it and try hard enough.

I actually saw those once! Was so confused what they were at first, I was visiting the USA at the time and they had them in some of their public toilets.

But then they also have a huge - intentional - gap in the doors on those cubicles, so that people outside the cubicle waiting to use it were just watching me poop.

It was really fucked up, and not just a one off design mistake, this was EVERY public bathroom. Mental.

What would someone do if they didn’t cook their own meals? Hire a butler? Just get takeaway for their entire lives?

That would be mental. Everyone, except the truly weird - or in special situations, home cooks the majority of the time, right? O.o
