I’ve decided that gaming is my top solo hobby, so I dedicate the appropriate time to it. On most days, I can get a solid hour in, sometimes 2 if I’m caught up or ahead on errands and making food.

otp@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When and why did the US switch to these voting machines that are the subject of ongoing lawsuits and reports of unlawful "updates"?1·5 days agoat the federal level I only vote for the candidates in my writing
I’m guessing you’re a Canadian that was using voice-to-text with your device’s language set to “US English”.
In American English, “writing” and “riding” sound the same. But not in Canadian English. Or British English, but for a different reason.

Back in the day, the space would be reserved, so if something hadn’t loaded yet, that space would be blank.
Nowadays, you’ll be reading something (or worse – trying to click on something), and it’ll get bounced around because some other element of the webpage got loaded in.
otp@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the dangers of an out of date phone?1·11 days agoThank you for this detailed response!
I have a Pixel, which has 5 years of security updates. That would probably get me up to the point where I’d want to change the battery. But I’m not convinced a newer phone would have anything for me other than better security updates, so it’d be hard to justify the price.
There’s also the fact that new phones can still have security vulnerabilities.
Since my phone is a flagship phone, I feel comfortable that if there are unpatched security issues discovered, they’d be caught by the public pretty quickly and I could make decisions from there…I just have to hope I’m not a “patient zero”, lol
I may have to get a “burner phone” for any sketchier activities to be safe, though…lmao
Is that a relatively reasonable course of action?
otp@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the dangers of an out of date phone?7·12 days agoHow often do older devices get breached, and is there any way to continue using an “older” device safely?
I feel like short security update lifecycles are a form of planned obsolescence.
With a battery upgrade after a few years, I could probably get over 5 years of life out of my phone, easily.
The picture is a bit misleading to the rest of your post, because given the picture and the title, I was inclined to answer “Right there”! Lol
I was wondering why you’d need to check receipts, but then I realized you probably meant old ones, haha
I’m an IV
I like how simply using “an” instead of “a” causes me to read it as I.V. and not 4. So it sounds to me like you started off by introducing yourself as an intravenous system or something.
otp@sh.itjust.worksto Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•Explain to me like I am a literal 5 year old. What is the hate towards Trans people? Is it just because they a different? Did they do something to garner the hate? I was raised different and change...English17·15 days agoA literal five-year old?
Well, you might be right. Some people hate others just because they’re different.
Also, there are some bad people who want to make others hate trans people. Those bad people will make up lies that make trans people look bad. They’ll tell stories that are lies, and make videos talking about those lies. And many people believe the lies, and start to hate trans people.
Trans people are an easy target because there are not many trans people. Well, there are many! But not as many as there are black people, for example. In fact, black people experienced similar hate and lies targetted towards them in the past. They still do today. Before, it was much worse. Thankfully, Black people grouped together to fight for their rights. They also had many allies help them in those fights. Trans people are doing the same now. That’s why we need to ignore the lies, and be allies to Trans people.
Now, why did the bad people who spread the lies choose to lie about Trans people, and not some other group? It might be for three big reasons.
- Trans people cannot stop being Trans, and there will always be Trans people. This means the bad people will always be able to spread their lies.
- Trans people have a lot of things in their lives (like medical procedures) that are different and surprising to people who aren’t trans. Things that are different and surprising can be scary to anybody sometimes.
- Trans people have started fighting for their rights, and some bad people don’t want to give rights to people who are different from themselves.
I know that’s a lot to take in. What are your thoughts about it?

I’ve given up on Purolator.
I just contact customer support/the seller and tell them all the steps I took (filling out my complete address, and on the day of, contacting them with my buzzer number), and tell them that I didn’t receive my package despite being home all day. I also didn’t receive their “sorry we missed you” sticky note anywhere. And no missed calls for the buzzer.
They often try to tell me the package is at a pickup point…I tell them that that’s not the address I entered into their system, it’s not the one that you put on the package, and you need to tell Purolator to send it to my address, or they’re going to return it to you/the sender.
This worked for my $1,000 package, thankfully. It didn’t work for my ~$50 packages. So that got sent back to the sender and I got a full refund. And I won’t be buying from them again unless they stop using Purolator.
Meanwhile, Amazon will drop off $200 packages at my doorstep without a signature – the way I want it! Lol
Purolator said they needex me to print out a form saying I authorize a drop off without a signature. I told them the driver is never going to see it because they don’t enter my building’s lobby let alone come up to my apartment. They said to do it anyway and it’d be fine. When I told them it said missed delivery again despite me following their instructions, they stopped replying to my support ticket…lol
