Well you have your “home” lemmy instance which you are logged in to. Everything you see goes through your home instance. But many things you will see originate on a completely different “remote” instance. Your home instamce nees to be federated and synced in order to the everything that happens in the remote/origin instance

I have Pixeld Android 16 and there I can still diasable every pre-installed app directly in the app settings. Also you could just go to the “open by default” settings of the app an set it to back to “browser” this way yt videos you click will not open the app anymore but the browser.

I think when you disable yt you can even got to the NewPipe app settings and enbaled it to be opened by default for each yt link and many more are supported by the app.

Also the youtube app is very usable with premium obviously. So in case you want to try it out but want it cheaper you could try the vpn trick an buy premium from a “low cost” country. Unfortunately google is fighting is actively and for most countries you’d need a credit card from that country. However Poland still worked for me for example and it’t still almost half the price therr.

Found a really good source including a picture of the first edition. It looks like that they were mentioned indeed in the 2nd edition to be more dog like in a sense of voice “yappin like a dog” and smelling like damp dog. Their visuals however were not really dog like. That is not entirely true. It’s a bit more complicated. Yes it is protected since the 1970s but it’s more of an academic title. You needed to study something that is “mainly” of technological or scientific nature. Basically befire the Bologna reform every student in Tec. Unis/FHs did get the title Diplom-Ingenieur. So the engineer part was literally part of your degree. This of course also true in case you studied IT. So yes there are many who call themselves IT engineers also in Germany. However it’s more of a philosophical question how much software development is actually engineering or rather craftsmanship.

They are still not a “non-profit” like the signal foundation or wiki etc. Still the whole company and the team behind them relies om a lot of work by voluntaries im they forums an big collection and I totally would pay for Vivaldi or donate for them if they ever want to change their business model to become donation driven.

yeah you can see all donation transparently on the donations section (unless u opted for anonymous) and fortunately it’s looking like it’s going quite well. I assume the creator actually has some more employees now or at least professional help for all the translations of the app as it seems to be available in a lot of languages.

Weawow is a completly (also ad-)free weather forecast app run basically solo by a Japanese guy. I was surprised when I found this app that it was so good in every aspect that I had to donate the guy. It has has more than half a Mio. reviews on google play with an average of 4.9 . Idk of any free app with that many reviews having this kind of rating, well deserved.
