That happened to my buddy Eric

New York has more economic influence on the world than most individual countries. This, economically speaking, is more significant than an eventful election for Australian PM.

A ton of influential and world renowned artists were very unsuccessful during their life.
A 2 liter sleeved and build b18 and a built trans will run 8s without meaningful issues pretty much forever, as long as you don’t launch at 10k rpm every single time. Mine is on it’s 6th season and 30k street miles, albeit on low boost (tuned for 1090whp, but I track it at 840 and street it on 600) and the closest thing it’s had to a rebuild is a head gasket and timing belt replacement because 4 hours is a small price to pay to protect a 6k motor. That and frequent motor oil and trans fluid changes, of course.
I take no problem with telling how much building a really nice car could cost, but you made it sound like 110k is the minimum cost and all I’m saying is not really. That, and the notion that high HP Hondas necessarily can’t hang with the power output are verifiably false
1995 civic shell, ~3k if mint
2000 CRV AWD manual transmission, 1k Upgrade the diffs and gearset for 5k for 6k total
Fully built, sleeved, and bored to 2L b18c motor ~5k easy all day long
If DIY, misc chassis parts (motor mounts, brakes, tires, traction bar, etc.) 3-4k
Turbo setup with a good quality turbo ~4k
Misc supporting mods like injectors, ecu, upgraded rad, etc. ~3-4k
All in you can pull off a 1,000hp b series AWD build (AWD being a luxury in the Honda tuning world) 26k that’ll throw down 8 second miles all day long

There’s exceptions, though; that’s why we’re here :)
I totally read what you’re saying. My work requires me to maintain a personal cell phone (Intune business profile) and, with any OEM implementation of a smartphone OS you’re essentially paying to donate everything about you to a megacorp to sell it to another megacorp to siphon more of you’re life away from you. The beauty of modern advancements, though, is that if you don’t care to be within 20% of the “bleeding edge” of attention extraction and intention fabrication you can spend your time in communities like this and with tech like graphene and linux making few sacrifices, if any.
I don’t know about you, but the lemmy atmosphere feels a lot like that of early forums to me. Not quite the same, but the community aspect is more present.
I think my stance is that technology doesn’t suck, as is the case with most things; it’s the unchecked and rampant abuse of a given thing.

Brilliant. I’ll set up some devil corp calls today!

Good points. Maybe I’ll offer it as an advanced side meeting or something, for those particularly interested. The goal is to help the community and not just a subset, of course :)

Absolutely, this is the goal. I’m going to run the first few with things ranging from simple “need a new phone? here’s what to look for” to “here’s how to install Graphene on a pixel and linux on a desktop” to break the ice and build the group. I have no idea how to garden, but judging by all the community gardens in my area I’m sure someone does.

Hell yeah! Great idea :)

Hmmm… might have to put this one on the back burner D:

Tons of public transport in my city, could be fun!

Excellent idea! There’s a ton of community gardens near me as well, so this is perfect for my community.

Definitely adding this to the list :)

Fantastic idea. I’m always blown away when I see someone learn about a HYSA for the first time!

I like both of these! Probably worth adding that I’m in a heavy urban area like Chicago

That’s brutal. Did you get back on your feet?
I think a more likely alternative with be a BSD or other Unix derivative
